Background

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is expanding its geophysical survey and marine geoscience capabilities to strengthen its global offshore survey, marine site characterization, geohazard assessment, UXO investigation, hydrographic survey, and geospatial data acquisition services. CSA is seeking a senior-level professional to lead the development and growth of the company’s geophysical service line, including technical leadership, business development, operational execution, equipment strategy, and project delivery. This role is focused on building a sustainable and scalable geophysical practice that supports CSA’s environmental, offshore energy, government, infrastructure, telecommunications, and marine science markets.

Position Summary

The position will support business development and project delivery by identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, leading technical and commercial proposals, defining equipment and personnel requirements, overseeing survey operations, managing data processing and QA/QC activities, and ensuring delivery of high-quality geophysical products. This individual will work closely with project managers, scientists, engineers, GIS specialists, and company leadership to establish and grow a profitable geophysical service line while maintaining technical excellence, operational efficiency, safety, and commercial success. Periodic domestic and international travel and working time offshore is required.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Lead the development, growth, strategic direction, and operational management of CSA’s geophysical service line
  • Lead business development activities, client engagement, and pursuit of opportunities related to geophysical surveys, hydrographic surveys, marine site characterization, geohazard investigations, UXO surveys, cable route surveys, and related offshore services
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, teaming partners, equipment vendors, and industry stakeholders to support growth and market expansion
  • Lead technical and commercial proposal development, including survey design, scope definition, staffing plans, equipment selection, schedules, risk assessments, and cost estimates
  • Direct and oversee all phases of geophysical survey projects, including planning, mobilization, acquisition, processing, interpretation, reporting, project closeout, and client deliverables
  • Provide technical leadership for geophysical survey systems and technologies, including equipment selection, deployment, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and capital acquisition planning
  • Establish and maintain geophysical survey standards, operating procedures, QA/QC protocols, and data management workflows to ensure technical excellence and consistency across projects
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with clients, project managers, scientists, engineers, and GIS specialists to ensure successful project execution and delivery of high-quality technical products
  • Prepare, review, and approve technical reports, survey deliverables, and client-facing documentation, ensuring technical accuracy, data integrity, and regulatory defensibility
  • Mentor, develop, and supervise technical staff while fostering a culture of safety, quality, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, security, environmental, company, and client requirements associated with offshore and field operations

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in marine geophysical surveys, hydrographic surveys, geohazard investigations, offshore site characterization, or related marine survey disciplines
  • Advanced degree or equivalent professional experience in geophysics, marine geoscience, hydrography, geomatics, ocean engineering, geology, geography, or a related technical field
  • Demonstrated experience building or leading a geophysical survey service line, technical group, or comparable marine survey business function
  • Proven ability to lead business development, client engagement, proposal strategy, scope development, cost estimating, and project execution for geophysical and hydrographic services
  • Extensive knowledge of marine geophysical survey methods, hydrographic operations, positioning systems, offshore logistics, survey planning, and data acquisition workflows
  • Hands-on experience with multibeam echosounders, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers, USBL positioning systems, and related survey technologies
  • Proven experience overseeing survey mobilization, acquisition, processing, interpretation, QA/QC, reporting, and delivery of geophysical and hydrographic datasets
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving technical reports, survey deliverables, client-facing documentation, and commercial/technical proposals
  • Proficiency with industry-standard geophysical, hydrographic, GIS, and data-processing software platforms
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and technical problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and project stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, security, and environmental performance, including compliance with company and client safety requirements
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally and participate in offshore operations as required
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Professional Hydrographer (PH), Certified Hydrographer, Registered Professional Geologist (PG), or similar professional certification
