Position Overview

Reliance One, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Functional Safety Specialist to support a critical safety compliance and validation group within a production engineering battery environment. This role requires deep expertise in functional safety standards, safety control systems, circuit validation, and regulatory compliance in large-scale industrial settings.


The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to coordinate at a regional level, and the discipline to prioritize work effectively to meet aggressive project schedules.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop detailed area project plans and schedules
  • Audit Safety Control Systems (SCS) for compliance with ISO 13849 and ANSI B11 standards
  • Identify, document, and track non-conformities within SCS designs
  • Design, implement, and verify countermeasures to achieve target control categories and performance levels
  • Develop schedules with defined deliverables, milestones, risks, and key performance indicators
  • Manage third-party consultant groups against milestones, concerns, and KPIs
  • Lead cross-functional communication to ensure timely issue resolution
  • Provide clear written and verbal project status updates to management and stakeholders
  • Audit SCS design modifications to ensure alignment with intended safety designs
  • Support and mentor the Control Reliability team through technical coaching
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and implementation as needed
  • Contribute positively to team collaboration and cross-functional success


Qualifications – What You Bring (Must Haves)

  • Functional Safety Certification (TÜV Functional Safety Engineer or equivalent)
  • Certification credentials must be included with resume
  • 5+ years of experience in functional safety engineering within industrial or automation environments
  • Technical Associate’s Degree or higher in a related discipline
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 13849-1, ANSI B11, and applicable safety standards
  • Proven technical problem-solving and countermeasure implementation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Safety PLC programming experience, including the ability to read, interpret, modify, and configure logic
  • Experience with PLC/SPLC communication protocols and system integration
  • Availability to support weekends, off-shifts, and holidays as required
  • Ability to work during scheduled shutdowns (July and December)
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% (domestic and international)
  • Ability to navigate large industrial facilities (standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling)
  • Ability to safely lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds


Preferred Qualifications (Added Bonus)

  • Experience with risk assessment tools
  • FMEA / FMEDA methodologies
  • Proficiency with one or more Safety PLC platforms, including:
