Job description

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Tester with strong proficiency in EXFO OTDR platforms and FastReporter 3. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience performing bidirectional and unidirectional testing, analyzing results, and ensuring all fiber construction meets required specifications and industry standards. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work extended hours when projects demand it.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform OTDR testing using EXFO equipment (1310/1550/1625/1650 nm as applicable)
  • Execute bidirectional and unidirectional testing per project standards
  • Upload, process, and certify results using FastReporter 3
  • Perform IL/ORL testing using OLTS platforms when required
  • Document results per customer, internal, or industry specifications
  • Identify issues such as: splice loss, connectors, macro bends, launch/receive fiber problems, and reflection anomalies
  • Ensure all testing is completed within expected timelines and quality thresholds
  • Work effectively with splicing teams, construction supervisors, and QA personnel
  • Maintain testing equipment and ensure calibration and firmware updates are current
  • Availability for long shifts, nights/weekends if required

Required Experience
  • EXFO OTDR experience (FTBx, FTB-1, IOLM knowledge is a plus)
  • Ability to perform bidirectional and unidirectional traces accurately
  • Strong experience using FastReporter 3 for analysis and reporting
  • Understanding of fiber types, PON/XGS-PON, ring and transport networks, splitter loss, events, and industry loss thresholds
  • Ability to interpret traces and identify root-cause issues
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications
  • FOA CFOT / CFOS certifications (or equivalent)
  • Experience with IOLM testing and automated analysis
  • Experience in OSP aerial and underground environments
