Safety & Risk Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements policies, programs, and practices to promote continuous improvement within the Springfield, MO. Manufacturing plant, and ensures, at a minimum, the organization is in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards
  • Ensures adherence to safe practices, injury/illness prevention processes, regulatory compliance, along with risk management for liability, Workers' Compensation, and property claims at all Springfield plants and DC's
  • Develops and facilitates the Safety Functional Leads in a manner which ensures appropriate conduct of injury/incident review boards, leading action plans, training and root cause analysis
  • Conducts safety audits and plan reviews to identify unsafe acts and conditions, program gaps, and best practices
  • Acts as the horizontal process owner for the Springfield plant, and encourages the sharing of best practices
  • Assists in the facilitation of site annual Safety, Health and Environmental action plans
  • Enforces McCormick's safety policies and procedures, facilitation and maintenance of behavior based safety systems, case management, and analysis of safety incidents and behaviors
  • Develops meaningful safety measures for the Springfield plant scorecard to drive performance improvements and lower TIR through continuous improvement
  • Communicates and translates organizational Safety, Health and Environment objectives, goals, strategies and measures tied to leading metrics
  • Leads and coaches safety committee members and (if applicable) Safety Functional Lead.
  • Develops, implements, and refines injury prevention processes for continuous improvement in injury frequency, compliance issues, and worker's compensation
  • Develops, communicates, and translates organizational safety objectives and practices into actionable solutions
  • Develops and maintains a variety of records and measures, including scorecards, OSHA logs, EPA reporting, and training records
  • Leads the resolution of Worker's Compensation issues, with an emphasis on implementing cost control measures and proper case management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Healthy, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Business, or a closely related field
  • Minimum 5 years' safety and environmental experience with demonstrated leadership ability in a manufacturing plant and/or distribution center / warehouse environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA, EPA and State safety/environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of Workers Compensation
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to participate in initiatives according to business needs and strategy
  • Experience leading cross functional teams
  • Experience developing, coaching, and motivating employees in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships at all levels, promoting a high performance organization
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects and activities to ensure timely completion
  • Ability to recognize problems and analyze and develop solutions using a logical thought process
  • Ability to work through complex and ambiguous, time sensitive, multi-disciplinary problems
  • Ability to work collaboratively to resolve issues with strong influencing, diplomacy, and partnering skills in order to grow business relationships and guide business partners to the best solutions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours to support the needs of a multi shift operation.

  • Experience working in a High Performance Work Systems (HPWS) and/or Self Directed Work Team environment
  • Experience working in a TPM environment
  • Experience with Occupational Health Management programs
