Job description

Description

Job Purpose: The Senior Accountant is a high-profile, high-impact position that will contribute significantly to the integrity and accuracy of the Company's financial statements, assist in driving the organization to meet strategic goals, and continuously improve financial controls and financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will have a strong understanding of GAAP, preparation of financial statements, be able to solve complex accounting issues, and be able to stay nimble in a fast-paced environment. This position will work cross functionally across the organization driving success in business initiatives.

Why This Role: Stella & Chewy's is a fast-paced, private equity-backed business where a Senior Accountant's work is seen - and used - by senior leadership every day. We are looking for someone who wants more scope than a title, brings ideas rather than waiting for direction, and intends to grow with the Company.

What you will do:

  • Compile and analyze financial information to review/prepare journal entries to recognize business transactions, both recurring and non-recurring.
  • Process currency revaluations and remeasurements while preparing monthly financial reports.
  • Lead monthly reconciliation activities for assigned financial statement categories; investigate discrepancies and make corrections and prospective accounting adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in coordination with the external tax team to prepare and distribute quarterly and annual tax distributions and tax returns.
  • Plays an active role in the continuous improvement of the Company's financial reporting data, automation of reporting utilizing the Company's ERP system(s) and creation of reports for management consumption that will drive understanding and decision making.
  • Assist in supporting the overall accounting group with periodic external audits by the Company's independent auditors and for various lender agreements.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on financial and business topics directly to senior and executive management.
  • Partner across departments on projects spanning cash flow forecasting, billing, AR, and AP.
  • Ad hoc analyses as determined independently and as needed based on enterprise initiatives and requests.
  • Compliance reporting including Us Sales and Use Tax and Canadian GST/HST

Requirements

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience; CPA strongly preferred
  • Five+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and/or a multi-entity, private equity-backed environment
  • Desire to grow multiple levels within or across the organization
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with complementary business acumen
  • Advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables, large data sets) and comfort with reporting and BI tools
  • Ability to organize data and create reports from various sources at both the very detailed level and then at a summarized management executive summary level
  • Ability to influence and build credibility across departments and with all levels of the organization
  • Superior work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced Private Equity ownership environment, while maintaining control over quality of work product and deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information in understandable formats and content to both finance and non-finance team members of all levels
