Position Summary

The Senior Director of Operations is responsible and accountable for the leadership, operational execution, financial performance, safety, customer relationships, and alignment on company strategy in a high-volume, fast-paced distribution and fulfillment center based in Sparks, Nevada.

The Senior Director of Operations will work closely with Finance, Human Resources, Compliance, Safety, Information Technology, Engineering, and other business partners to support operational excellence and long-term business growth.

The successful candidate will be a visible, hands-on leader with exceptional communication skills and the ability to lead through rapidly changing customer demands, shifting priorities, peak-volume periods, and complex operational challenges.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Operations is accountable for developing the skills and effectiveness of managers, guiding and teaching data-based decision making, metrics, and the on-going measurement of results. This role will also support the organization by translating our vision and strategy into reality through inspiring and motivating others and clearly communicating expectations all while coaching positive activity and proactive decision-making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for warehousing, distribution, fulfillment, transportation, inventory management, and related logistics services.
  • Oversee a high-volume, multi-shift operation while ensuring consistent execution across inbound, outbound, inventory control, value-added services, and support functions.
  • Establish operational priorities and ensure resources are aligned with customer demand, service requirements, and business objectives.
  • Maintain a strong presence within the operation and regularly engage with leaders and employees on the warehouse floor.
  • Lead the operation through peak periods, new product launches, customer initiatives, system implementations, and other high-demand events.
  • Ensure appropriate contingency and business continuity plans are developed, maintained, and tested.

Financial Management

  • Develop, forecast, manage, and achieve annual operating budgets and financial targets.
  • Maintain responsibility for Profit and Loss performance, labor management, overtime control, productivity, operating expenses, and capital requirements.
  • Review operational and financial performance and implement corrective action plans when results fall below expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, increase efficiency, improve asset utilization, and strengthen profitability without compromising safety, quality, or service.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure accurate forecasting, reporting, billing support, and financial reconciliation.

Customer Leadership

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers at the local, regional, and executive levels.
  • Serve as a senior operational point of contact for customer concerns, escalations, performance reviews, and strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the company in customer meetings, business reviews, site visits, presentations, and operational planning sessions.
  • Communicate operational performance, risks, corrective actions, and improvement plans clearly and professionally.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services, operational expansion, and long-term customer growth.
  • Ensure customer commitments are understood throughout the organization and consistently delivered.

Safety, Compliance, and Quality

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture that meets or exceeds company and regulatory expectations.
  • Hold leadership accountable for compliance with OSHA requirements, company safety policies, security procedures, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Partner with Safety, Compliance, and Human Resources to investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure operational processes meet applicable legal, regulatory, contractual, quality, and security requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure findings are addressed within established timelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, secure, and professional working environment.

Performance Management

  • Ensure internal and external Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators are consistently achieved.
  • Monitor performance across safety, service, quality, productivity, inventory accuracy, labor efficiency, cost, and employee engagement.
  • Develop and implement mitigation plans when performance is below target.
  • Establish effective management routines, including daily operational reviews, weekly performance reviews, and monthly business reviews.
  • Ensure operational reports are accurate, timely, actionable, and clearly communicated to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use data and performance trends to anticipate risks and make informed business decisions.

Continuous Improvement and Technology

  • Lead the deployment of the company’s Lean Guiding Principles and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Foster the company culture of innovation, problem-solving, ownership, and operational discipline.
  • Identify inefficiencies, capacity constraints, and process gaps throughout the operation.
  • Develop and implement sustainable solutions that improve safety, quality, service, productivity, and cost.
  • Maintain current knowledge of logistics technology, automation, Warehouse Management Systems, and industry trends.
  • Partners with Information Technology, Engineering, and operational teams on system enhancements, automation projects, equipment upgrades, and process changes.
  • Ensure new processes and technologies are properly tested, documented, trained, and implemented.

Workforce Planning and Leadership Development

  • Develop short- and long-term staffing plans based on forecasted volume, productivity expectations, seasonality, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure the operation has the appropriate leadership structure, workforce capacity, training, and shift coverage.
  • Support employee engagement, retention, recognition, and development programs.
  • Identify high-potential employees and create development and succession plans for critical positions.
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, respect, and effective communication throughout the organization.
  • Ensure leaders consistently apply company policies, procedures, and performance expectations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide timely updates to executive leadership regarding operational performance, risks, customer concerns, and business opportunities.
  • Participate in strategic planning, contract reviews, customer proposals, and new business implementation activities.
  • Travel is required to support customers, company locations, business reviews, or operational initiatives.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience within logistics, warehousing, fulfillment, distribution, cross-dock, transportation, or a related environment.
  • Minimum of five years of experience leading senior managers or large, complex operations preferred.
