Job description

Job Description

At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money - we're here to move our global customers forward.

We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that's you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career, we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.

About the Role

Every Remitly transfer matters. It may be rent, school fees, medical bills, a gift, or support for family back home. Our job is to get that money where it's going, safely and without delay. Money Platform is the foundation behind that promise: the systems that receive, safeguard, move, pay out, and orchestrate every transfer.

We're hiring a Director of Engineering for Money Platform to lead it into its next chapter, with capabilities that compose into compelling products and help teams move quickly, safely, and independently. You'll measure success by how much they can build on the platform without you in the room.

The builders who depend on the platform are changing. They're engineers working more and more with agents, and over time they'll be agents composing money movement directly. Designing for that future is a core part of the role.

Youโ€™ll set direction, grow the leaders and principal engineers on the team, and stay close enough to the work to engage your strongest engineers as a peer. Youโ€™ll also be fluent enough in the business to move between a technical decision and a customer outcome.

You Will
  • Treat the teams who build on the platform as your customers. Give them clear contracts and a developer experience clean enough that they integrate once on their own
  • Ship platform capabilities on a steady rhythm that product teams can feel, and make that rhythm something the team is known for
  • Hold the operational, reliability, and correctness bar for systems that move customers' hardโ€‘earned money
  • Be the technical leader your strongest engineers want to work for. Earn credibility with principal, staff, and senior engineers; go deep when it counts; and grow the managers and principals who will lead this platform next
You Have
  • 8+ years of technical leadership experience, including 5+ leading multiple teams
  • History building and operating platforms or large distributed systems that other teams choose. Experience with payments or financial systems is a big plus
  • The technical depth to engage principal and staff engineers as a peer, and to step in when a hard problem needs you
  • Comfort holding a clear technical opinion in a room of executives, and moving between business strategy and technical bets in both directions
  • A point of view on what an agentic world means for a platform like this, and how you would build for it. Not a slogan about using AI more
Compensation Details

The starting base salary range for this position is typically $240,000 - $300,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan. Your recruiter can share more information about medical benefits offered, as well as other financial benefits and total compensation components offered with this role.

  • Health, dental, and vision + 401k plan with company matching
  • Paid parental, medical, military and family care leave

  • Continuing education benefits
Our Connected Work Culture

At Remitly, we believe that true innovation sparks when we come together. Our Connected Work Culture fosters dynamic inโ€‘person collaboration, where ideas ignite and challenging problems find solutions faster. For corporate team members, we have an inโ€‘office expectation of at least 50% of the time monthly, typically achieved by coming in three days a week. This creates a consistent, meaningful overlap that supports team norms and business needs. Managers also have the flexibility to set higher expectations based on their teamโ€™s specific needs. These intentional inโ€‘office moments are vital for deepening relationships, fueling creativity, and ensuring your impact is felt where it matters most.
