Job description

Senior Accountant | $80,000–$95,000 | Onsite | Direct Hire | Des Moines Metro

A well-established organization in the Des Moines metro is seeking a Senior Accountant to serve as a key financial partner to operational leaders across multiple locations and service lines. This position combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with budgeting, financial analysis, process improvement, and leadership support.

The ideal candidate will understand the accounting complexities found within healthcare, senior living, or multi-family real estate environments, including location-based financial reporting, property-related assets, service-line profitability, capital projects, and partnership with non-financial operational leaders. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant who enjoys translating financial information into practical insights that help leaders make informed business decisions.

Why This Opportunity
• Highly visible role partnering directly with operational and executive leadership
• Opportunity to support multiple locations, properties, or service lines
• Broader responsibilities beyond traditional month-end accounting
• Ability to influence budgeting, financial processes, and internal controls
• Stable, mission-oriented organization with a collaborative culture
• Opportunity to serve as the primary accounting resource for assigned business leaders

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Partner with operational leaders on budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis
  • Prepare management reports, investigate variances, and provide actionable financial insights
  • Serve as the primary accounting resource for assigned locations or business units
  • Maintain fixed assets, depreciation, construction-in-progress, and other key balance sheet schedules
  • Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting accuracy
  • Support cash management, external audits, tax reporting, and cross-functional accounting activities
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational and financial performance

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong understanding of financial accounting, month-end close, fixed asset inventories, and financial reporting
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting
• Background within healthcare, senior living, multi-family real estate, property management, or another multi-location environment strongly preferred
• Strong Excel skills and experience working within an ERP or financial reporting system
• CPA, CMA, master's degree, or other advanced certification is a plus
• Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting systems is helpful but not required

Your Benefits
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
• Retirement savings plan with employer contributions
• Paid time off and paid holidays
• Professional development and career-growth opportunities
• Employee wellness and support programs
• Collaborative, progressive team-oriented work environment
