Overview

We are seeking an experienced Sr Desktop Support Tech 2 to provide on-site desktop support services for end users in a fast-paced government IT environment. This position is responsible for supporting Windows-based workstations, laptop refresh initiatives, hardware and software troubleshooting, and delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication and problem-solving skills while working collaboratively with internal teams to ensure reliable desktop operations.

Job Description

The Sr Desktop Support Tech 2 will provide hands-on desktop support for Virginia Tax, ensuring end users receive timely technical assistance for hardware, software, operating systems, and related technologies. This role supports Windows workstations, laptop refresh activities, software deployments, remote support tools, and desktop troubleshooting while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational reliability.

Responsibilities

Desktop Support & Technical Operations

  • Provide technical support for Microsoft Windows 11 or later operating systems
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktop hardware and software
  • Support laptop refresh initiatives and workstation deployments
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, driver, BIOS, and peripheral issues
  • Utilize SCCM/SMS and other enterprise tools to manage desktop environments
  • Provide remote support using tools such as SCCM, Remote Desktop, Dameware, or similar technologies
  • Support Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Microsoft 365
  • Troubleshoot PC hardware, peripherals, and network connectivity issues

Customer Support

  • Deliver responsive, professional technical support to end users
  • Communicate technical information clearly to users with varying technical backgrounds
  • Obtain customer feedback to improve support and training methods
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service throughout all support interactions

Operational Support

  • Run reports and analyze recurring technical issues and user complaints
  • Identify trends and recommend improvements to desktop support processes
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to resolve technical issues
  • Continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and support tools

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience supporting computer systems, hardware, software, drivers, and BIOS
  • Minimum 4 years of experience demonstrating strong problem-solving, analytical, and teamwork skills
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum 4 years of experience obtaining customer feedback to improve training methods
  • Minimum 4 years of experience running reports and analyzing common technical complaints and issues
  • Minimum 4 years of experience demonstrating openness to learning new technologies
  • Must physically reside within the United States for the duration of the assignment
  • Must be able to work 100% onsite from Day One
  • Must participate in both a virtual interview and a mandatory in-person interview before an offer can be extended
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Windows 11 or later operating systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Microsoft 365
  • Experience supporting PC hardware, peripherals, and network connectivity
  • Experience performing laptop refresh projects
  • Experience using SCCM, Remote Desktop, Dameware, or similar remote support tools
  • Experience performing software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Experience working with SCCM/SMS in an enterprise environment
