Job description

Job Title: Senior Process Piping Engineer / Designer / Project Manager (Food, Beverage & Pharma)
Location: Rochester, NY and Central NY (In-Person)
Department: Engineering & Project Delivery
Reports To: VP Process Industrial Group

About Us

Crosby Brownlie is a family-owned Mechanical and Design-Build contractor delivering high-performance piping and process systems across food & beverage, pharmaceutical, and industrial markets. We specialize in hygienic process piping, sanitary design, and fully integrated project delivery—from concepts through fabrication and installation.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Process Piping Engineer / Designer / Project Manager with direct experience in food, beverage, and/or pharmaceutical facilities. This is a high-impact role for someone who can step in immediately, take ownership of projects, and drive execution with minimal onboarding.

You will lead hygienic/process piping design, coordinate across disciplines, and manage projects from concept through startup—ensuring compliance with sanitary standards and delivering constructible, fabrication-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and layout of hygienic/process piping systems (CIP/SIP, utility systems, production lines).
  • Develop and oversee P&IDs, 3D models, and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, and Fabrication CADmep.
  • Manage projects end-to-end: scope, schedule, budget, client coordination, and execution.
  • Serve as the technical lead and client-facing point of contact.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, 3-A Sanitary Standards, and ASME BPE where applicable.
  • Drive clash detection and coordination using Navisworks and lead coordination meetings.
  • Work closely with fabrication and field teams to ensure design for constructability and install efficiency.
  • Support material take-offs, procurement, and preconstruction planning.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve field issues in real time with practical, buildable solutions.
  • Mentor and guide detailing/design staff as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in process piping design within food, beverage, or pharmaceutical environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to own and deliver projects independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong experience with hygienic/sanitary piping design principles.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Fabrication CADmep, Navisworks, or similar tools.
  • Experience with P&IDs, system layouts, and fabrication-level detailing.
  • • Strong understanding of hygienic design principles, including cleanability, drainability, appropriate material selection (e.g., stainless steel), and sanitary fabrication and installation practices.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate across engineering, field, and client teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with CIP/SIP systems, clean utilities (WFI, clean steam), or food-grade processing systems.
  • Familiarity with design-build delivery and fast-track projects.
  • Knowledge of ASME BPE, 3-A, FDA/USDA guidelines, and GMP environments.
  • Background working for a mechanical contractor or fabrication-driven firm.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary: $110,000 – $150,000+ (based on experience and ability to contribute immediately)
  • Opportunity to lead high-value, technically complex process projects
  • Strong integration between engineering, fabrication, and field teams
  • Growth into senior leadership or technical authority roles
  • A company culture built on ownership, craftsmanship, and execution
