ABOUT THE ROLE

Ferguson's BIM (Building Information Modeling) Designer III serves as a senior expert, utilizing cutting-edge BIM software and methodologies to oversee electrical design, coordination, and execution in highly complex commercial and industrial construction projects. This role entails leading cross-functional teams, including architects, engineers, project managers, and subcontractors, to produce sophisticated 3D models, anticipate and resolve intricate clashes, and ensure optimal integration of electrical systems. The BIM Designer III will spearhead initiatives to maximize project efficiency, drive significant cost savings, and eliminate on-site errors through innovative digital modeling strategies, while providing mentorship, strategic guidance, and championing the organization's core values across the team.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead comprehensive model setup tasks, including developing custom templates, standards, and workflows for large-scale projects.
  • Design, implement, and refine advanced tags, annotations, and parametric families to support dynamic model functionality and automation.
  • Expert-level mastery of Revit families, encompassing custom creation, advanced editing, and seamless integration in multifaceted Revit ecosystems.
  • Independently create and refine detailed 1-line and 3-line drawings, incorporating regulatory compliance, engineer input, and innovative design solutions.
  • Oversee complex Revit circuiting, panelboard schedules, and sophisticated scheduling tools, provide guidance to engineers and ensure accuracy.
  • Direct equipment layout/clearances, integrating submittal reviews, code adherence, and multi-disciplinary coordination to optimize system performance.
  • Spearhead modeling of intricate conduit and cable tray pathways, hangers/support systems, sleeves/penetrations, MEP coordination, section drawings, (3D) drawings, underground coordination, and lighting layouts with strategic oversight.
  • Perform advanced clash detection, resolution, and federated model management using Navisworks, while leading coordination meetings and BIM forums.
  • Mentor BIM Designer I and II team members, conducting training on advanced techniques, software optimization, and best practices.
  • Develop and enforce BIM execution plans, company-wide standards, and continuous process improvements to elevate team performance.
  • Incorporate and advocate for renewable energy systems, sustainable design practices, and emerging technologies into project models.
  • Analyze model data for insights on project metrics, risk assessment, and value engineering opportunities.

ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience in BIM modeling, with extensive expertise in electrical contracting or MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) sector for large-scale commercial and industrial projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field is required; Master's degree or advanced certifications are preferred.
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit, Navisworks, BIM Management, or equivalent) are essential.
  • Expert proficiency in BIM software including Revit MEP, Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC, and advanced tools like Bluebeam, Dynamo, or similar for automation and model validation.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for in-depth documentation, reporting, data analysis, and presentations.
  • Expert proficiency in drawing software (e.g., Revit and AutoCAD), including scripting, automation, and plugin development.
  • Mastery of 3D modeling, visualization, rendering, and virtual reality integration techniques.
  • Expert data management and interoperability (e.g., IFC file formats, API integrations, and data exchange protocols).
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems design, National Electrical Code (NEC), and advanced commercial construction practices.
  • Proficiency in interpreting, modifying, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Strong experience with renewable energy systems, sustainable design practices, and LEED/BREEAM standards.

Requirements

ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree in electrical drafting, drafting design, electrical engineering, or similar preferred.

A minimum of two years' experience as an electrical drafter.

American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) certification is preferred.

Proficiency with CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SolidWorks.

Excellent understanding of a range of electrical generation and transmission systems.

Thorough knowledge of electrical safety regulations, building codes, and health standards.
