SYSTRA International Bridge Technologies (IBT) is an engineering firm solely dedicated to bridge engineering. We offer specialized engineering services in all facets of bridge design, construction, and maintenance.

Our niche bridge types include steel-concrete composite and all concrete cable-stayed structures, extradosed structures, and segmental concrete bridges. We are a world leader in metro and high-speed rail elevated guideway design. We emphasize the importance of producing bridges tailor-designed for their site that are constructible and economical without sacrificing elegance. We aim to develop cost-saving concepts with well-conceived construction methods, selecting suitable materials based on cost-effectiveness.

Our bridge projects have been built in the United States, Canada, Panama, Australia, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Taiwan, and in the Middle East. We have offices located in Canada, the United States and the Middle East.

As a Senior CAD Technician – Bridges, you will lead the preparation, coordination, and review of complex engineering drawings using AutoCAD and MicroStation. You will ensure all design drawings conform to project specifications, mentor junior technician staff, and collaborate closely with engineers and project managers. You will also play a key role in maintaining quality standards and developing best practices in CAD drafting.

  • Produce and review advanced engineering drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate drawing production and documentation for multiple, simultaneous bridge and structural projects, requiring collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior CAD technicians.
  • Interpret engineering data and convert it into clear technical drawings.
  • Lead the development and implementation of CAD standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Collaborate directly with engineers, designers, and project managers to integrate interdisciplinary input.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute technical expertise at various project stages.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality control and adherence to project deadlines.
  • Support the continuous improvement of drafting procedures and technical competency in the team.
  • Develop and prepare complex shop drawings from design drawings and other data.
  • Check and verify design drawings for conformity with specifications and design data.
  • Develop 3D models from sketches or specifications, ensuring compliance with standards and technical constraints.
  • Interface with BIM systems to support multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to understand project requirements and technical specifications.
  • Other related duties.

Education: A college or university diploma in civil engineering, industrial drafting or a related field. Additional advanced training or certifications in CAD is an asset.

Years of experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience in computer aided design and drafting, with focus on bridge or structural engineering.

Technical competencies:

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation is essential.
  • Strong understanding of bridge or structural drawing standards.
  • High level of understanding of roadway or highway geometry in plan and profile.
  • Ability to manage and deliver complex drawing packages.
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling (Tekla) and integration with BIM platforms.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methods.
  • Knowledge of technical standards and specifications in bridge design.
