Senior Database Engineer

Location: Cleveland, OH
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite (No remote or hybrid option)
Employment Type: Full‑time

Work Authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship or processing is not available now or in the future, including H‑1B or any other work authorization sponsorship.


 

The Senior Database Engineer designs, builds, and maintains secure, reliable, and scalable database management systems that support enterprise applications and business operations. This role blends hands‑on technical expertise with operational ownership, ensuring databases are performant, secure, and aligned with evolving business needs.

You will work closely with developers, analysts, and other stakeholders to design database solutions, optimize performance, maintain data integrity, and support production systems.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop enterprise database systems, standards, and quality controls
  • Patch, upgrade, and maintain databases to ensure security and supportability
  • Document database designs and communicate architecture impacts to stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain complex database code, logical processes, and data structures
  • Participate in testing and quality assurance of database solutions
  • Translate business requirements into database schemas, tables, and data specifications
  • Support capacity planning through analysis of data growth and storage needs
  • Optimize data storage organization and relational models
  • Define table relationships, indexing strategies, and field interactions
  • Partner with stakeholders to establish disaster recovery, backup, recovery, and archiving strategies

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or related field
    OR
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in database engineering or administration in lieu of a degree

Experience & Skills

  • 4–6 years of hands‑on experience in database engineering and administration
  • Strong experience with database design, implementation, documentation, and management
  • In‑depth understanding of database management systems and data structures
  • Ability to translate business data needs into technical solutions
  • Experience working with large, complex, and unstructured datasets
  • Hands‑on experience with Oracle relational databases
  • Proficiency with SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting languages such as Python
  • Experience with database performance tuning, backup/recovery, and data security practices

Preferred Qualifications
  • Senior‑level Oracle DBA experience
  • Oracle 19c and autonomous databases (single instance, RAC, Data Guard)
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) experience
  • Exposure to Oracle ecosystem tools (RAC, ASM, Data Guard, SSO, OIM, OBIEE)
  • Strong troubleshooting and holistic performance‑tuning skills
  • Experience with DevOps and automation tools such as Jenkins and Ansible
  • Familiarity with GitHub and version control systems
