What is a senior Crestron programmer?

Senior Crestron Programmers are highly experienced professionals who design, program, and troubleshoot Crestron automation and control systems for commercial or residential environments. They utilize Crestron's proprietary programming languages and tools to create customized solutions that manage audio, video, lighting, HVAC, and other integrated technologies. In addition to technical skills, they frequently collaborate with clients, engineers, and installers to ensure seamless system integration and optimal performance. Senior Crestron Programmers often mentor junior programmers and stay updated on the latest technologies and Crestron products.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a senior Crestron programmer?

To thrive as a Senior Crestron Programmer, you need advanced programming skills in Crestron SIMPL, SIMPL+, and VT Pro-e, along with a solid understanding of AV integration and control systems, typically supported by a Crestron certification (such as Crestron Certified Programmer). Experience with Crestron Toolbox, Fusion, and related AV/IT networking tools is also essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with clients and technical teams. These capabilities are crucial for delivering reliable, scalable, and customized automation solutions that meet complex client requirements.

Collaboration with AV engineers, project managers, and end-users is vital to clarify system requirements and manage expectations. Staying updated on the latest Crestron firmware and programming best practices helps address integration hurdles, while thorough testing and documentation ensure smooth system deployment and maintenance.

Job description

Job Description

TES Consultants is seeking a Senior AV/VTC Specialist to lead audiovisual and video teleconferencing support for a federal agency client in the National Capital Region. The role is the senior technical authority for the agency's conference room, executive briefing, and event technology, and serves as the day-to-day point of contact to the government's Contracting Officer's Representative for AV and VTC service delivery.

You will operate the centralized AV/VTC service desk — receiving, tracking, and resolving every AV and VTC request from across the agency — and lead support for executive meetings, town halls, hearings, training sessions, and webcasts. The environment spans headquarters conference rooms and a nationwide field office footprint, with Cisco and Poly room platforms and Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, and Poly RealPresence in concurrent use.

The performance standard is concrete: at least 90 percent of incoming AV/VTC requests resolved without escalation, measured monthly, with any issue unresolved after 24 hours entering a formal escalation process. This position is designated Key Personnel.

, Required Skills

•  Ten (10) years of experience supporting audiovisual and video teleconferencing systems in an enterprise or federal environment.

•  Hands-on support of VTC endpoints, codecs, room control systems and conference room technology across multiple rooms and facilities.

•  Operational support of Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, and Poly RealPresence, including multi-site connections, webinars, and break-out rooms.

•  Diagnosis and resolution of audio, video, network connectivity, codec, and hardware faults, working vendors through warranty and repair where required.

•  Live event support — meetings, town halls, executive briefings, and webcasts — including setup, operation, recording, and streaming.

•  Preventive maintenance: routine inspections, firmware updates, upgrades, and lifecycle replacement planning.

•  Documenting and tracking all work in a service ticketing system, and producing monthly performance reporting.

•  Experience serving as the single point of contact to a customer or client representative for a service area.

•  Ability to pass a full-field five-year employment background investigation (SF-85P, Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions) prior to starting work.

•  Authorized to work in the United States; all work performed within the United States.

•  Professional written and verbal communication, and a customer-service manner suitable for supporting executives and senior officials.

•  Bachelor's degree (any discipline).

Education.

•  Bachelor's degree required (see Required Skills).

•  Associate degree or technical school coursework in audiovisual technology, broadcast, electronics, or information technology is a plus in addition to the bachelor's.

Certifications.

•  AVIXA CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) — strongly preferred; CTS-I or CTS-D a distinct advantage.

•  Crestron Certified Programmer or Extron AV Associate/Specialist.

•  Cisco CCNA, Cisco Collaboration or Poly certification.

•  Microsoft Teams Rooms or Teams Voice certification.

•  CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+.

, Desired Skills

•  Experience supporting AV and VTC across a distributed field office footprint, including remote diagnosis and structured site surveys.

•  Crestron or Extron control system configuration.

•  Biamp or comparable DSP configuration and audio system tuning.

•  Digital signage platform administration.

•  Open and closed captioning support for meetings and public events.

•  Experience supporting cabinet-level, commission, or executive-level principals.

•  AV asset, licensing, and warranty inventory management.

•  Prior experience supporting a federal agency, particularly a small agency where one team covers a broad scope.

•  Experience supporting an organization with geographically distributed field offices.

•  Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service management (incident, problem, change, and knowledge management).

•  Experience working within an enterprise ticketing system such as Zendesk, ServiceNow or Jira Service Management.

•  Active or recent federal background investigation or security clearance.
