Overview:

This position is part of the Competitive Intelligence & Product Consulting team within Individual Solutions, focused on theIndividualLife market.


The Life Competitive Intelligence Senior Consultant serves as the strategic owner of life insurance competitive intelligence and industry insights for Individual Solutions. This role provides expert analysis, thought leadership, and actionable recommendations that inform product strategy, distribution effectiveness, and business growth initiatives.
An associate in this position willidentifymarket opportunities, evaluate competitive threats, influence product and business decisions, and ensure Securian maintains a strong understanding of the life insurance marketplace and competitive landscape.The position acts as a trusted advisor to business leaders and strategic partners while helping strengthen intelligence capabilities, mentor team members, and advance competitive intelligence practices across the organization.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategy Development & Business Consultation

  • Serve as the senior competitive intelligence advisor for the Individual Life business, providing proactive market, competitor, and industry intelligence that informs executive decision-making, strategic planning, and investment priorities.

  • Proactively monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and the end-to-end Individual Life competitive landscape to anticipate market shifts, identify opportunities and risks, and recommend strategic responses.

  • Synthesize complex market intelligence into executive recommendations that influence business strategy, product roadmaps, distribution priorities, and investment decisions.

  • Develop executive-level analyses, reports, and presentations while cultivating key industry relationships that strengthen market awareness and competitive intelligence.

Business Innovation & Competitive Positioning

  • Serve as the primary competitive intelligence resource for Individual Life, partnering across Product, Actuarial, Underwriting, Distribution, Marketing, and other business areas to influence product innovation, underwriting strategy, illustration competitiveness, customer value, and market differentiation.

  • Lead market and competitive assessments to proactively identify opportunities for new products & enhancements, underwriting innovation, pricing strategy, distribution, digital experiences, and customer value creation.

  • Develop strategic business cases and recommendations that support product strategy, lifecycle management, governance decisions, and ongoing market competitiveness.

  • Ensure product and underwriting strategies are informed by customer needs, emerging market trends, and competitive dynamics.

Distribution Enablement

  • Serve as a trusted competitive intelligence advisor to distribution leadership, relationship managers, and strategic partners by providing insights that strengthen sales effectiveness, market positioning, and business growth.

  • Develop and deliver executive presentations, competitive positioning, educational resources, and thought leadership that enhance product knowledge, market awareness, and sales readiness.

  • Influence distribution and sales strategies through forward-looking insights on competitive advantages, customer needs, emerging market trends, and evolving distribution opportunities.

  • Support strategic product launches, partner engagements, industry conferences, and key business initiatives while representing Securian as a knowledgeable industry resource.

Competitive Intelligence Leadership

  • Serve as the senior practitioner within the competitive intelligence function, advancing research methodologies, analytical frameworks, knowledge management, and intelligence best practices.

  • Drive continuous improvement of competitive intelligence capabilities through emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and innovative research methodologies.

  • Mentor and coach team members by strengthening analytical capabilities, sharing expertise, and fostering strategic thinking.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in competitive intelligence, market intelligence, product development, strategic planning, consulting, or related life insurance disciplines.

  • Deep knowledge of life insurance product mechanics, underwriting, distribution channels, market dynamics, and competitor strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive business decisions through strategic recommendations.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable business insights.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills.

  • Proven ability to independently lead complex projects and navigate ambiguity.

  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to build credibility across leadership teams and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Experiencepresenting toexecutive leadership and external audiences.

  • Advancedproficiencywith competitive intelligence methodologies, market research, benchmarking, and analytical tools.

  • Series 6and/or 7

  • Ability to travel as needed to support product launches,distributionpartner meetings, industry events, and other strategic business initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing training materials, mentoring team members, orfacilitatingknowledge-sharing initiatives.

  • Knowledge of advisor behavior, consumer trends, and emerging technologies affecting the life insurance industry.

  • Experience building relationships with distributors, reinsurers, industry organizations, or strategic partners.

  • Industry designations such as CLU,ChFC, FLMI, CFP, or similar.

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$111,300.00 - $207,800.00
