Description
The Senior Technical Writer will support Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) editing and creating IETMs (Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals) and TMs (Technical Manuals) using PTC Arbortext to MIL-STD-3001 specification. This position will be onsite at our facility in Indianapolis, IN.
JOB DUTIES:
  • Author, edit, and develop IETMs and TMs for NAVAIR equipment, to cover maintenance, operation, repair, theory of operation, troubleshooting, and Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) in accordance with MIL-STD-3001 requirements.
  • Author, prepare, review, revise, and develop IETMs and TMs for NAVAIR equipment from source data such as Logistics Product Data, Engineering Drawings, and Maintenance Plans for equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Create and update NAVAIR MIL-STD-3001 XML documentation with complete understanding of XML tags and how to apply to text.
  • Coordinate content creation across multiple documents continuously with competing deadlines.
  • Perform quality reviews and peer reviews across technical and non-technical documents.
  • Evaluate document quality based on accuracy, substance, and quality of written content.
  • Create narrative content using Subject Matter Expert (SME) interviews to author and validate with technical system engineers, architects, and other SMEs.
  • Create agendas, meeting minutes, initial technical publication outlines, and incrementally create, validate, update, and review document content.

Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree and six (6) years or more related experience; will accept additional years' experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Team-oriented, self-starter, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products and desktop publishing software.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous experience creating and editing NAVAIR IETMs and TMs.
  • Proficient in use of PTC Arbortext or similar XML authoring software.
  • Recent knowledge of and experience with Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service Center (NATEC) documentation standards and procedures.
  • Current knowledge of and experience with Naval & Marine Corps aircraft systems.
  • Experience developing Logistics Support Analysis Records (LSARs) for Acquisition Logistics.
  • Experience creating illustrations for technical publications using software such as Adobe Illustrator and Corel.
