Position Overview
The Commodity Manager is a new SubCom position that will work across the end-to-end supply and value chain to deliver precision, velocity, and quality results. From the import of foreign sourced raw materials and components, through our new Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ), to ship loading and installation around the world, the Commodity Manager will have the opportunity to create business value through the Senior Commodity Manager will have the opportunity to create business value through knowing industry and market dynamics, key players per industry segment and their customer and supply base, forming value-added partnerships internally and externally, mitigating risk, in the pursuit of continuous improvement and flawless execution. The Commodity Manager will use their industry, market, and procurement experience and talent to create positive impact on Price Per Unit (PPU) and Purchase Price Variance (PPV) to create competitive advantage for SubCom. The Commodity Manager reports to the Senior Commodity Manager.
The Commodity Manager will work across various business functions - R&D, Operations, Materials Management, Logistics to increase efficiency and reduce cost. They collect and interpret data from ERP and other systems (e.g., Oracle, ShipNet) to create spend and performance reports, identify buying patterns and repeat purchases, and identify process improvements, collaborating with logistics and procurement teams.
Responsibilities
  • Research and Intelligence Gathering: The Senior Commodity Manager engages in research and intelligence gathering at the industry, market, and company level and at the commodity level. Must understand ecosystems and networks of extraction, refining, production, and distribution of goods. Must understand markets and indexes and what moves them.
  • Strategic Sourcing: Developing global strategies for assigned commodities to ensure continuity and reduce costs.
  • Supplier Management: Evaluating, selecting, and maintaining relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Negotiation & Contracting: Leading contract negotiations regarding pricing, quality, and delivery terms.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identifying potential supply chain disruptions and implementing contingency plans.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering with engineering, operations, and finance teams for new product development and cost savings.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or economics.
  • Experience: Generally requires 5-7 years of experience in procurement or sourcing within a manufacturing environment.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze market trends, spend data, and supplier performance.
  • Technical Knowledge: Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications.
  • Software: Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
  • Curious: A curious and questioning mindset to challenge paradigms and identify the root cause and factors
  • Attention to Detail: Precision is essential to creating a high-velocity and impactful decision-making process
  • Analytical: Data exists everywhere - inside and outside the enterprise - the ability to mine it, refine it, interpret it, and present it is a core capability
