Position Overview

Senior Impact Managers (SIMs) lead and develop teams of full-time student success coaches as team of idealistic, emerging leaders and practitioners who provide holistic support to students, classrooms, and school communities. Reporting to an Impact Director and working primarily from partner school(s), IMs play a critical role in implementing City Year's Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) service model, mission, and practices. This position is responsible for three core areas of work: team development and experience, school partnerships, and City Year's impact goals. Impact Managers support their teams through a challenging and rewarding year of service while helping create the conditions for student and school success.
The Senior Impact Manager will manage two school teams of 9-15 AmeriCorps Volunteers. The Impact Manager will work on-site at their designated school placement(s) with one office-based day during the week and select offsite locations and remote days as approved by their Impact Director.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Urban Studies, Youth Work, or other related field preferred but experience in management, non-profits, community service and/or youth work is acceptable

  • 2-5years of experience ineducation or comparable experience

  • At least 1 year of management experience with strong track record of results:

    • Setting high expectations and holding self and team accountable for performance goals

    • Developing diverse talent through performance plans, reviews and leadership opportunities

    • Using progress and outcome data to inform team management

  • Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America

  • Criminal background history clearance to work with school-age children, depending on the position

Responsibilities

TheImpact Manager will perform the following roles and responsibilities as described below:

Team Management

  • Lead, manage, and coach two teams of 18-25-year-olds completing a year of AmeriCorps service to achieve service impact with students and reach their leadership development potential

  • Monitor performance through consistent check-ins, clear expectations, and timely feedback to address challenges, balancing accountability with the developmental needs of early-career adults.

  • Serve as an effective talent developer and mentor student success coaches through career exploration and decisionmaking, helping them clarify their postservice goals and build skills and networks to pursue their next step.

  • Ensure student success coaches successfully meet AmeriCorps service requirements, including service hours, documentation, and adherence to prohibited activities and program policies.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that supports collaboration and belonging.

Service Delivery & Impact

  • Lead teams in implementing City Year's service model, including classroom support, individualized tutoring, schoolwide initiatives, extended learning time, and other supports aligned to school priorities.

  • Coach team members to deliver differentiated tutoring and coaching for students in English-Language Arts, math, and interpersonal skills development.

  • Use and interpret student- and program-level data to identify trends, guide coaching priorities, and inform decisions with school partners.

  • Ensure accurate and timely collection and entry of service and student data.

School Partnership Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison between City Year and the school, building strong relationships with principals, teachers, and staff to align service with school priorities and follow through on shared decisions.

  • Participate in regular meetings with school leadership and partners to discuss progress, needs, and conditions for success.

Collaboration & Learning

  • Collaborate effectively with teammates to achieve sitewide goals and foster an inclusive environment.

  • Contribute to corps volunteer learning by leading or cofacilitating training sessions during start-ofyear onboarding and ongoing learning & development days.

  • Reinforce centralized training through onthejob coaching, reflection, and team learning activities.

  • Role model a growth mindset and commitment to City Year's culture and values as a leader within a youth-serving organization.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor to advance City Year's mission

Preferred Qualifications

  • City Year/AmeriCorps/Peace Corps/ National service experience is a plus

  • Proven professional relationships and experience working with/in Detroit Public School Community District or as a contracted provider with DPSCD is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and lead diverse teams of young adults which includes experience coaching young people and working with diverse populations to achieve goals

  • Experience using data to inform decisions

Physical requirements

  • Be physically present on your assigned school campus(es) during designated work hours

  • Move about the school campus as needed throughout the workday

  • Lift and carry instructional materials, books, and supplies up to ~20 pounds

  • Have sufficient vision to read printed materials, a computer screen, andobservestudent activities

  • Have sufficient hearing to understand conversations in person or over the phone

  • Speak clearly and be understood by students, parents, and colleagues

  • Open doors or operate a computer and other instructional technology

  • Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including during inclement weather

Working Conditions

  • Operates in a school campus majority of the fiscal year using standard office equipment.

  • Frequent travel required between school campuses, must have access to reliable means of personal transportation

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, youth-centered school environment, with a noise level that can range from moderate to high.

  • Weekly travel required to downtown City Year Detroit office and periodic travel to other locations across Metro Detroit.

  • Typical schedule: 40 hours per week with occasional extended hours as needed.

    • Typical schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00 - 5:00 pm or 8:15 am - 4:15 pm

  • Must have reliable internet access when remote or flexible work arrangements are approved

Compensation

Compensation: $62,000 - $67,000.00 Annually Commensurate with Experience. Benefits include health insurance with Flexible Spending Accounts, paid vacation, holidays, parental leave, 401K, and more
