Description Field of Competition: Open Competitive Vacancy information: There is currently one (1) projected. The current recruitment will remain open until filled. Compensation: Commissioners receive a stipend of $75.00 for each meeting they attend, with a maximum stipend of $75.00 per meeting

There are no benefits provided to Commissioners. Applications Instructions: Applicants must submit the following: A complete application, including answering all supplemental questions A resume detailing relevant work and education history A Cover Letter detailing the reason of interest to seek appointment as a Community & Senior Services Commissioner for the City of West Covina Job Summary: The Community and Senior Services Commissioner acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council on matters pertaining to the community services needs of the citizens of West Covina relating to public recreational services, cultural activities and special events, youth services, public transportation, neighborhood and human relations, human rights, and senior services. Examples of Duties Essential Functions: Provides the major citizen participation vehicle for the City's Community Development Block Grant program as well as a forum for citizen expression and involvement.

Provides input to the Planning Commission on the master planning of Parks, and assists with the acquisition, development and maintenance of park and recreation facilities in the community. Review matters pertaining to the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the City's community development block program. Seek the assistance of citizen committees to investigate and research specific issues concerned with community services with the concurrence of the city council.

Aid and advise the City Council in the identification of the needs of the senior population of West Covina, and recommend policies and programs to meet those needs. Foster, enhance, and recognize volunteers of all ages within the community. Provide input to the planning commission and the City Council on matters pertaining to the design and features of parks, community centers, and senior center that affect the provision of recreation and related services.

Recommend programs and activities directed toward enhancing the recreation, social, and senior service opportunities available to all persons in our community. Recommend to the City Council programs and activities directed toward enhancing communication and relationships between residents, agencies, institutions, and businesses in our community. Recommend to the City Council measures to ameliorate physical, social and economic conditions adversely affecting the residents of our community.

Seek involvement of residents, agencies, organizations, institutions, and the business community to further mutual regard and understanding between all persons of our city, and work toward constructive resolution of tensions whenever they occur. Recommend to the city council delinquency prevention programs that foster respect, positive self-esteem, and personal and social responsibility. Typical Qualifications Required Qualifications: Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, and be a resident and registered voter of the City of West Covina.
