Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Azure/Fabric Data Engineer based in Netherlands.

Join a strategic data transformation initiative where you will help design and shape a modern Azure and Microsoft Fabric data platform supporting business-critical operations. In this senior role, you will combine hands-on data engineering expertise with solution architecture and stakeholder advisory, helping define scalable, cost-effective data solutions across finance, supply chain, manufacturing, and business intelligence. Working closely with both technical and business teams, you will assess existing environments, recommend architectural improvements, and contribute to implementation following the discovery phase. This position offers significant ownership, exposure to enterprise-scale cloud technologies, and the opportunity to influence long-term data strategy within a collaborative, fully remote environment.

Accountabilities
  • Assess the current Azure and Microsoft Fabric data environment, identifying opportunities to improve scalability, performance, governance, and cost efficiency.
  • Define target data architecture, implementation roadmaps, and technology recommendations that align with business and technical requirements.
  • Design and implement modern ETL/ELT solutions using medallion architecture principles, metadata-driven frameworks, and cloud-native data engineering best practices.
  • Build integrations across ERP, manufacturing, finance, and quality management systems while ensuring reliable and scalable data pipelines.
  • Develop Power BI semantic models, dimensional data models, and governance standards to enable high-quality reporting and analytics.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams throughout discovery, architecture planning, and implementation, providing clear technical guidance and solution recommendations.
  • Support the transition from discovery into full-scale platform implementation, contributing hands-on engineering expertise throughout delivery.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, cloud data platforms, or related fields.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, and Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse and Warehouse capabilities.
  • Advanced SQL/T-SQL skills combined with experience using Python and/or PySpark for data engineering workloads.
  • Proven experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines, medallion architectures, dimensional models, and enterprise data integration solutions.
  • Strong Power BI expertise, including DAX, semantic models, tabular modeling, and data visualization best practices.
  • Experience using Git, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines within modern data engineering environments.
  • Exposure to solution architecture, discovery workshops, technical assessments, platform design, or technology selection.
  • Excellent English communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric capacity optimization, metadata-driven ETL frameworks, multi-ERP integrations, Purview, Databricks, Synapse, or regulated manufacturing and pharmaceutical environments is considered an advantage.
Benefits
  • Fully remote contract opportunity for Europe-based professionals.
  • Opportunity to lead the architecture and development of a modern Microsoft Azure and Fabric data platform.
  • High level of ownership with direct influence on enterprise data strategy and technology decisions.
  • Potential to transition from an initial part-time discovery phase into a full-time implementation engagement.
  • Exposure to modern cloud technologies, enterprise data architecture, and large-scale digital transformation initiatives.
  • Collaborative international environment with close interaction between business stakeholders and technical teams.
