Job description

Accessibility Technical Support Consultant

To provide senior level accessibility technical support and consulting to developers across the enterprise when building web applications, mobile applications and working with vendor hosted solutions.

The Accessibility Office is focused on improving Vanguard’s ability to create information and functionality that is accessible to all people. Working with the Accessibility Office, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with various IT teams across sub-divisions to help them implement accessibility guidelines and best practices.

Willingness to be the hands-on Accessibility Expert, where you will advise, support, and contribute solutions to front-end design and development teams as they strive to improve the accessibility of our client-facing digital interfaces.

Passion to help the entire team focus on accessibility and ability to train and coach Front-End Developers, Software Testers, UX Designers, Content Strategists, Visual Designers and accessibility ambassadors on best practices and creative solutions to sometimes complicated implementations.

Provides overview of techniques developers can use when building users interfaces that comply with Accessibility Guidelines.

Is highly functional on large, matrixed project teams. Interfaces with cross functional team members, including database administrator, IT security, project manager, technical writer, and clients. Communicates systems issues at the appropriate technical level for each audience.

Contribute to Vanguard’s knowledge of industry accessibility acumen and documentation as needed

Supporting Accessibility Office tracking and monitoring of accessibility issues from discovery through remediation

Required skillsets/relevant experience:

  • Knowledge of Accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 level A and AA) and ability to mentor other developers.
  • Knowledge of HTML 4 and 5, ARIA, CSS 2 and 3, JavaScript, Typescript
  • Automated testing and building Single Page web application experience.
  • Assistive technology knowledge and experience is a plus (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and ZoomText).
