Job description

Job Title: Semiconductor Field Service Engineer III

Location: Malta, NY 12020
Job Type: Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Semiconductor Field Service Engineer III to provide on-site installation, start-up, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair support for semiconductor processing equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in semiconductor capital equipment, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in a customer-facing environment. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, a strong commitment to customer success, and the flexibility to travel throughout the Northeast region as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Service & Support

  • Perform on-site service, maintenance, repair, and start-up activities for semiconductor processing equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and implement effective solutions to minimize customer downtime.
  • Install, replace, and configure equipment components and spare parts.
  • Execute equipment modifications, upgrades, and engineering change orders.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Analyze mechanical, electrical, and system-level failures.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Ensure equipment operates according to manufacturer specifications.

Customer Support & Training

  • Serve as the primary technical interface with customers.
  • Train customer technicians and operators on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships through professional communication and problem resolution.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete service reports, maintenance logs, and technical documentation accurately and on time.
  • Track service activities, parts usage, and equipment performance metrics.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations to customers and management.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, service, and management teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and technical training programs.
  • Adhere to company and customer site safety, security, and conduct standards.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's Degree in Electronics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience

  • 4+ years of Field Service Engineer experience supporting semiconductor equipment.
  • Strong background in equipment installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and start-up activities.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of semiconductor equipment maintenance, repair, and installation processes.

Preferred Experience

Experience with legacy semiconductor equipment is highly preferred, including:

  • ACT 8
  • ACT 12
  • MARKS
  • LITHIUS

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Work in semiconductor cleanroom environments and confined spaces.
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, crawl, and climb stairs/ladders.
  • Lift and carry equipment or components weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Walk up to or exceed 10,000 steps during 12-hour shifts.
  • Work in elevated or restricted-access areas as required.
  • Wear required PPE, including:

  • Cleanroom garments
