SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY: 

Assists craft workers in performing related duties under direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists craft workers in Labor Department.

Assists wrapping and insulating steam and water pipes in tunnels and classrooms.

Assists in brushing or spraying water proofing on bricks or cement.

Helps put caulking in joints, cracks and around windows to seal against water or air leaks.

Assists cement finisher, masonry workers, landscaper and floor covering installer by performing heavy work such as lifting, carrying, digging and demolition.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Valid Indiana Driver’s License.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The semi-skilled laborer should be able to be flexible and be able to work under a wide variety of conditions.
