Seismic Squirrel LLC


Job Title: Videogame Studio Accountant & Administrator

The Role: Provide accounting, administrative, and operational support for a growing videogame studio.

The Game: A vehicular RPG videogame set in an alternate history 1930s New York.

Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in a small-business accounting and administrative role.

Location: USA (Remote) - Must reside within the UTC-4 to UTC-8 timezones.

Team Size: 24

Pay: $36 - $46 USD per hour - Depends on skills and experience.

Job Overview

This is a multi-hat role, requiring a variety of business skills and experience. On one hand, we need a careful, detail-oriented accountant and bookkeeper, on the other hand someone resourceful at administration and operations with a clear talent for organization and coordination, someone adept at logical and systemic thinking with a collaborative spirit, excellent communication skills, and an enthusiasm for videogames and the videogame industry. The ideal candidate enjoys working with management and a team of talented creatives, with a drive to help us to efficiently create great products.


The ideal candidate communicates effectively in a small cross-functional remote team environment. They bring a passion for working within a product development environment, having a collaborative spirit and an enthusiasm for supporting a team of creative individuals.


This is a remote, contract-to-hire position which requires regular collaboration online during our core work hours (9:30 AM - 5:30 PM Pacific), attending relevant team meetings. Occasional calls during late evenings and early mornings should be expected.


Applicants must be authorized to work in the USA. The option to convert to full-time employee may be available, depending on applicant's location, skills, performance, aptitude, and project needs. H-1B transfers and sponsorships are not available at this time.

Quests

Accounting

  • Participate with management, presenting accounting reports and advice to enable data-driven decisions
  • Create and present financial forecasts
  • Monitor and report on ROI for marketing campaigns
  • Coordinate with outside CPAs on tax compliance
  • Oversee state and provincial government registrations and filings
  • Help manage vendor relationships, setting up and maintaining billing and payment processes and systems

Bookkeeping

  • Handle QuickBooks categorization and bank reconciliation
  • Monitor accounts for funding and irregularities
  • Process sales tax, use tax, and property tax
  • Validate timesheets
  • Oversee vacation and sick time accruals
  • Sync PTO (vacation, sick time) between timesheet and payroll systems
  • Process expense reports and reimbursements
  • Administer 401(k) and Health Insurance enrollments, deductions, and payments
  • Reconcile benefit deductions from payroll with actual benefit payments
  • Keep insurance coverage up to date - e.g. Workers Compensation coverage when workers are hired, terminated, move homes
  • Ensure that team members and vendors are issued tax forms: W-2, 1099, T4, etc.

Marketing Support

  • Collect, analyze, and report on Market data
  • Evaluate the ROI of Marketing campaigns
  • Help organize and manage Marketing events

Personnel Support

  • Ensure that each contractor's contract is up-to-date
  • Administer our pool of external testers
  • Prepare and facilitate Performance Reviews
  • Administer eLearning and training compliance
  • Coordinate time-off requests: scheduling, payroll
  • Coordinate travel planning.

Recruiting Support

  • Pre-screen job applicants for follow-up review by the hiring manager and lead
  • Keep the ball rolling for hiring, scheduling interviews and providing follow-up communications to job applicants

Other Duties

  • Lead initiatives, ensuring they're effectively executed
  • Lead meetings, communicating agendas and following up on action items
  • Participate in internal game testing and feedback as needed
