Job description

As a Business Development Representative at Quill, a valued Staples company, you’ll play a key role in driving new customer growth across both education and commercial segments.

This is a high-activity, outbound sales role where you’ll connect with prospective customers, introduce tailored solutions, and help organizations recognize value in Quill’s offerings.

You’ll also own early-stage account growth, managing new customers for a defined period to establish ordering patterns and expand spend before transitioning them to an Account Manager.

This role is a strong entry point into a long-term sales career, offering clear exposure to account management, customer strategy, and revenue ownership.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Conduct outbound calls to prospective and non-ordering customers to generate new business
  • Engage inbound and assigned leads to convert interest into active customers
  • Build and manage a consistent pipeline across education and commercial segments
  • Present pricing, programs, and solutions tailored to customer needs
  • Establish early customer relationships and drive initial order activity and repeat purchasing
  • Manage newly acquired accounts for a defined period to stabilize and grow spend before handoff
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, including pipeline activity and performance tracking
  • Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly sales metrics and activity goals

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1+ year of professional experience (sales, customer service, or related)
  • Experience managing priorities and working toward performance targets
  • Ability to work onsite at our Lincolnshire, IL location at least 4 days per week

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree
  • 1+ year of B2B sales, customer acquisition, or business development experience
  • Experience in quota-driven or metrics-based roles
  • Exposure to education or commercial customer segments is a plus

  • $22.75/hour - $27.00/hour, plus incentive opportunity
    The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting.The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, business considerations, geography, and internal equity.   Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements.
