The Security Software Engineer II reports to the Sr Manager, Security Software Engineering in the SPEAR Automation team. Part of the Secure Product Engineering & Anti-Cheat Response (SPEAR) department at EA, the SPEAR Automation team builds tools that directly protect fair play across our games.
In this role, you'll focus on EA's internal gameplay integrity platform. The platform is used daily by gameplay analysts to review data, detect suspicious behaviour, and take decisive action that keeps Battlefield and other EA titles fair for players. You'll design and implement new features, improve usability, and help modernise its technology stack.
You'll also help develop features for EA Security's cloud based security tooling framework. You'll design scalable APIs and other features that would help EA Security protect our partners and players and help foster positive play.
This is a hands-on development role: you'll spend most of your time writing code, solving problems, and working closely with analysts and security partners to build products they can rely on. Your work will have a visible and meaningful impact on protecting fair play for millions of players worldwide.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and enhance EA's gameplay integrity platform used by gameplay analysts to keep Battlefield and other titles fair for players and free of cheats
  • Build intuitive and responsive front-end features that enable analysts to review gameplay integrity data quickly and accurately
  • Design and maintain scalable back-end services and APIs that integrate with other EA systems
  • Collaborate with gameplay analysts and security teams to understand workflows and translate them into effective product features
  • Monitor and improve performance, reliability, and usability of the platform
  • Contribute to the product roadmap by suggesting improvements and new capabilities based on user feedback
Requirements
  • Strong experience with front-end development using modern frameworks (Angular or React a plus)
  • Solid back-end development experience with .NET, Node.js, Rust (or equivalent) for building APIs and services
  • Experience designing, querying, and optimising relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL/MSSQL); familiarity with non-relational stores (e.g. DynamoDB) is a plus
  • Ability to create clean, well-structured APIs and integrate with third-party/internal systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, especially in complex web applications
  • A product mindset - cares about usability, user experience, and building tools that people enjoy using
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose language (e.g. Python, C#, or Java)
Desirable
  • Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Understanding of secure development practices and software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Interest in application security and fair play in games
  • Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
  • Passion for gaming and fair competition
