What are Security Operations Analysts?

Security Operations Analysts are IT professionals responsible for monitoring, detecting, and responding to cybersecurity threats within an organization. They work in security operations centers (SOCs) to analyze security incidents, investigate suspicious activities, and help implement measures to protect digital assets. Their role often involves using security tools and technologies, collaborating with other IT teams, and ensuring compliance with security policies. By proactively identifying vulnerabilities and responding to incidents, Security Operations Analysts play a critical role in safeguarding an organization's information systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Security Operations Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Security Operations Analyst, you need a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, incident response, and risk assessment, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with security information and event management (SIEM) tools, intrusion detection systems, and certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP is highly valuable. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills that set top analysts apart. These skills and qualifications are essential for quickly identifying, investigating, and mitigating security threats to protect organizational assets.

How does a Security Operations Analyst typically collaborate with other IT and security teams?

Security Operations Analysts work closely with various IT and cybersecurity teams to monitor, detect, and respond to security threats. They regularly interact with network engineers, incident response teams, and system administrators to escalate and resolve security incidents. Effective communication and coordination are crucial, as analysts may need to provide detailed incident reports, share threat intelligence, and participate in post-incident reviews to improve security protocols. This collaborative environment helps ensure a swift response to threats and fosters ongoing professional development through cross-team knowledge sharing.

Job Description

Profitero is the leading digital commerce analytics platform, helping the world's biggest CPG brands win on the digital shelf. We track what shoppers see and buy across more than a thousand retailers in 70 countries and turn that data into decisions... and we are looking for an Associate, Commercial Operations to help us make that happen!

As a part of our Commercial Operations team, you will support some of our most strategically important client relationships. You'll partner closely both with internal cross-functional data acquisition, data quality, and account management teams as well as client partners themselves to ensure the quality and accuracy of our client's product data, information, and categorization within Amazon and other digital retail media ecosystems. You'll receive spreadsheets containing large volumes of structured product data and sales information and help to make sense of that information using AI tools, Python scripts, and good old-fashioned Excel functions and formulas. You'll monitor our existing SLAs and review reporting to ensure that we can identify and proactively address any potential issues.

Note that isn't a strategy or insights role - this is about data attribution and governance. Maximizing the quality and cleanliness of the data that we have, understanding what data we don't have, and objectively interpreting that data to ensure that our strategy and analytics teams (and our clients!) have the best, most accurate, and highest-quality information possible in order to be able to develop meaningful and actionable insights, recommendations, and strategies using that data.

This is also not a role where you'll spend your days making decks. You'll be in the data, coordinating across teams, tracking commitments, and making sure our largest clients get what they signed up for. You don't need to be a developer, engineer, or data scientist to be successful in this role nor do you need a deep background in digital retail or ecomm. But you DO need to be comfortable with technology, excited about learning new systems and tools, passionate about data, and interested in how companies use that data to drive their business forward... if that sounds like you, we can teach you the rest.

So why choose this role?

  • You'll have a front-row seat to how enterprise data analytics partnerships actually work at scale and will get broad and meaningful exposure FAST. On any given week, you might be analyzing documentation to enhance an AI-built python script, investigating data discrepancies for a major global brand's Amazon sales, preparing a governance scorecard for a bi-monthly global operating committee, and coordinating with engineering teams to pinpoint problems that require fast, adaptive work to solve. That variety is the point... we're a lean team, and we do real work.
  • You'll also be working at the intersection of operations and data quality at a moment when both are high-stakes for Profitero. Our enterprise clients hold us to demanding SLAs with financial consequences for non-compliance. The work you do has direct bearing on client outcomes and contract renewals.

PLEASE NOTE: There are no specific geographical requirements for this role; highly qualified candidates from any US-based location who are willing to work an ET/CT schedule will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Candidates who are local or commutable to a market where Profitero has an office will be expected to work in a hybrid capacity with anticipated onsite engagement an average of 3-4 days/week.

ALSO NOTE: We are not able to provide sponsorship support for this role now or in the future. No third-party staffing agencies, please.

Responsibilities
  • Data Attribution & Quality Engineering
    • A core part of this role is making client data better, not just flagging when it's wrong, but doing the hands-on work to fix it.
    • You'll investigate item-level accuracy issues, trace them to root cause, and use Excel, Python, and AI-assisted workflows to clean, reclassify, and validate product attributes at scale.
    • As client category standards and naming conventions evolve, you'll translate that feedback into structured data rules that can be applied systematically, building attribution that is more accurate and more durable over time.
  • SLA Monitoring & Compliance Tracking
    • Profitero operates under detailed, contractually binding Service Level Agreements with enterprise clients - your job is to make sure we see issues before our clients do.
    • You'll monitor data availability, reporting lag, and accuracy performance across accounts, track SLA thresholds, and maintain a live view of where each account stands against its quarterly commitments.
  • Client Governance Support
    • Our largest clients operate through structured governance frameworks: executive committees, global operating committees, and technical data quality councils.
    • You'll prepare scorecards, performance summaries, and issue trackers for regularly scheduled meetings, draft business-friendly summaries of data quality issues written for stakeholders who need to understand impact rather than technical detail, and track action items out of governance forums to make sure they get resolved.
Qualifications
  • 1+ year of professional experience in data, analytics, research, analysis, product management, or a similar field; prior experience working alongside the CPG, retail, and/or marketing industries preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, data analytics, economics, information systems, or a related field; experience may be substituted.
  • Comfort and experience working with data, AI, and technical tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to parse, interpret, and synthesize data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel with the ability to interpret, storyboard, and present data effectively; exposure to and experience in specialized data and reporting tools including Snowflake, JIRA, SQL, and/or Python strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ecommerce, CPG, or digital shelf analytics preferred.
  • Experience working in a client-facing capacity (internships count!).
  • Exceptionally organized with a fanatical attention to detail.
  • Naturally curiosity around how things work... understanding data pipelines, client contracts, operations workflows excite you.
  • Comfort operating with a high level of ownership, autonomy, and accountability.
  • A natural sense of urgency with an ability to work quickly, efficiently, and accurately within tight deadlines and constantly-evolving project parameters, scope, and goals.
  • Flexible and adaptable with an ability to work successfully across multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
  • Highly collaborative but independently capable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort participating and presenting in client meetings; you can turn a messy situation into a clear, organized summary.
