Job description

Apogee is seeking a Special Security Manager (SSM) to support the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC). This position manages day-to-day SCI security operations and ensures Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) is protected and administered in accordance with applicable IC/DoD directives and local policy. The SSM partners with Government security officials to maintain SCI program compliance, support mission execution, and ensure personnel and facility readiness.

 

This is a full-time opportunity at Petterson Space Force Base (PSFB), CO or El Paso, (Ft. Bliss) TX.

  • Manage and administer SCI security operations (as applicable), ensuring compliance with governing directives and local SCIF/SCI procedures.
  • Maintain SCI access records and security documentation (e.g., indoctrination/debriefing records, access rosters, visit requests/verification, security files, SOPs).
  • Coordinate SCI visit certifications, read-ins/read-outs, and access eligibility validation in coordination with the Government.
  • Oversee SCI material control: receipt, storage, reproduction (as authorized), transmission, inventory, and destruction; maintain accountability logs.
  • Conduct SCI security training/awareness and ensure personnel comply with handling, reporting, and incident response requirements.
  • Support inspections, audits, and self-assessments; track corrective actions and report compliance status to Government leadership.
  • Respond to and document security incidents/spillages; coordinate containment, reporting, and remediation actions.
  • Serve as the day-to-day security point of contact for SCI-related requirements, questions, and coordination with mission stakeholders.

Minimum Experience:

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen 
Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Top Secret (TS) with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) adjudication
Education: Bachelors Degree
Years of Experience: 6+ years experience managing SCI/Special Security programs in DoD/IC environments.

Additional Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of SCI procedures (access control, visit certification, read-in/read-out, SCI material handling and accountability, incident reporting).
  • Experience maintaining security documentation and supporting inspections/audits with corrective action tracking.
  • Proven ability to coordinate effectively with Government security offices and support a cleared workforce.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft SOPs and deliver security briefings.

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Experience:

  • Prior experience supporting an Army staff or SMDC-type headquarters environment and SCIF operations.
  • Experience serving as an SSO/SSM in a high-tempo operational setting, supporting multiple compartments/programs.
  • Familiarity with adjacent security disciplines (personnel security, physical security, COMSEC, OPSEC) and how they interface with SCI operations.
  • Experience leading internal security reviews/self-inspections and developing process improvements.
  • Relevant training/certifications consistent with special security duties (as applicable to the program).
