Job Description

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will supervise a staff of engineers and designers (internal and external) who are responsible for design / development of Intercom products which are used primarily in the in the Critical Communications Group.  This group includes products for the markets of (1) Broadcast / Entertainment Media market, (2) Aviation Headsets, and (3) Radio Dispatch Products.  The manager will have multiple roles including management of mechanical design activities, design of injection molded plastic and metal components (primarily sheet metal and machined aluminum) as well as leading and coordinating all product certification and testing efforts.   

The Critical Communication Systems organization is responsible for complex new product design, continuation engineering, and operations support. The Manager is responsible for ensuring that their mechanical engineering workforce is properly sized, skilled, trained, and utilized to serve the needs of the product line and its customers. The manager will work to recruit and retain staff possible within budgetary goals. They will participate in the new product development process including Ideation, Requirements and Project Planning, Design Execution, Validation and Certification Testing Coordination, Manufacturing Interfacing, and Market Introduction. The Manager will work closely with other groups, including Purchasing and both internal and external manufacturing facilities.  This is a highly visible position within the organization. This position is also a role that will require hands-on design ability for complex systems.

  • Design of custom injection molded plastic, sheet metal, and machined Aluminum parts.
  • Integrate custom-designed and offtheshelf mechanical components into complete electro-mechanical assemblies, ensuring compatibility, manufacturability, and re.liable system performance.
  • Participation in the full new product development life-cycle.
  • Managing and developing global mechanical engineering and design resources.
  • Product ideation and the co-development of structured engineering requirements, translating market requirements to systems and product design requirements.
  • Establishing schedules for projects as well as project, product, and device cost estimates.
  • Accountable for schedule, budgetary, and project / product cost performance.
  • Adherence to corporate processes and policies.
  • Co-developing strategic and tactical budgets covering staffing, capital assets, and expense.
  • Monitoring and controlling expenses as needed for the department.
  • Working with Product Management to develop and document customer requirements.
  • Building cross functional relationships to gain trust and efficiency in the organization.
  • Coaching and developing staff members in both formal and informal training.
  • Providing hands-on technical leadership as well as technical contribution to projects and product maintenance activities.
  • Participating in the development of medium to long term product and technology roadmaps.
  • Managing continuation / maintenance engineering projects as well as managing component availability / end-of-life issues for components.
  • Leading product certifications and testing and managing the relationships with UL and other Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, plus a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Some experience in supervising or managing team members.
  • MS in Management of Technology or an equivalent Technology-MBA degree is preferred.
  • Experience developing injection molded plastic, sheet metal, and machined Aluminum components.
  • Experience with design tolerance analysis and practical application of GD&T principles.
  • Experience in product ideation and in turning customer requirements into products.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplined project teams that include electrical, mechanical, and firmware.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of complex injection molded plastic components.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 5%.
  • Due to federal government contract requirements, applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Core Skills:

  • Knowledge of quality systems concepts and tools and their applications (experience with DfMA, FMEA, DfT, DoE, and Six Sigma methodologies is helpful).
  • Expertise in designing products for international safety certification.
  • Experience with SolidWorks.
  • Experience in structural, thermal, and fluid dynamic simulation for enclosures, hardware, and mechanical components.
  • Preferred experience performing Mold Flow Analysis.
  • Must possess very strong communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, have the ability to lead a team.
  • Ability to present complex concepts in a clear non-technical manner, making the complex, simple.
  • Strong analytical and negotiating skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, high energy and have a desire for team building.
Additional Information

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is from $145,000-$170,000 annually. Within the range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, job location, etc. 

In addition to base salary, full-time employees are eligible to participate in Keenfinity Group's (US) Health and Welfare Benefit Plans-including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance-as well as the company's 401(k) plan, subject to the terms and conditions of the respective plan documents. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in Keenfinity Group's paid time off and sick leave programs in accordance with applicable policies.
