Saint Mary's School is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school for girls in grades 9-12. The School is the fourth oldest girls' boarding and day school in the country and is located on a beautiful 23-acre campus in the heart of Raleigh, within walking distance to many restaurants and attractions the City of Oaks has to offer. Raleigh-Durham, NC is ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States by US News & World Report.
Saint Mary's School is offering a unique and exciting opportunity to work on a beautiful historic campus beginning immediately. This benefited position includes meals in the dining hall.
The Security Guard reports directly to the Director of Security. This position is responsible for the protection, safeguarding and security of employees, students, visitors, and School property/facilities, twenty-four (24) hours a day.
Opportunities are available for first, second, and third shift duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
  • Perform campus security patrols by foot or golf cart to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, students, visitors, and other individuals to maintain a secure premise.
  • Ensure only authorized people are on campus; deal appropriately with unauthorized personnel.
  • Assist in the resolution of any conflicts on campus.
  • Conduct inspections of building, mechanical rooms and vehicles.
  • Perform monthly inspections on security and fire alarm equipment and access control systems.
  • Operate camera systems, communications systems, and fire alarm systems according to procedures.
  • Respond to campus emergencies quickly and effectively by contacting appropriate Emergency Services personnel as it applies to various situations.
  • Provide guidance in unusual situations or emergencies.
  • Keep records and prepare reports. Investigate and write reports on accidents, incidents, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards, and other security related situations.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for all campus events and activities.
  • Control and direct parking across campus.
  • Escort or provide directions to individuals to specified locations on campus.
  • Start-up and shut down building support equipment.
  • Provide any needed assistance to students, employees and visitors within the security guidelines.
  • Interact frequently with students, employees, parents, visitors, alumna, and the campus community in a manner that supports a positive impression of the School.
  • Assist in the assignment and distribution of school vehicles.
  • All other duties as assigned or needed.

• Perform weekend and night responsibilities to support the life of the residential community and the academic program as required by your position or requested by your manager/supervisor. Required skills:
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.

Physical Activities / Environmental Demands:
  • Shift work, typically eight (8) hours, but can be up to twelve (12) hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Prolonged standing and extensive walking up stairs (up to four (4) stories of a building at once).
  • Requires the ability to expediently respond in an emergency or rescue situation by foot.
  • Be able to drive a golf cart.
  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Be able to reach overhead.
  • Be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to fifty (50) pounds with heavier weight necessary at times.
  • Must be able to successful complete certified training in the use of OC spray, tactical handcuffing and advanced self-defense tactics.
  • Work is performed inside and outside the property with exposure to inclement weather and unpredictable crisis situations.
  • Challenge unauthorized personnel on campus with the possibility of physical confrontation.
  • Be able to drive and/or ride in school-owned vehicles, including a 14-passenger bus.

Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Requires a high school diploma/G.E.D certificate and completion of 2+ years of college or 2+ years of Security /Law Enforcement experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a campus environment and enforcement procedures.
