Job Description

This full-time Lead Software Developer role is based in Huntsville, AL and focuses on software development and software architecture for multiple software and artificial intelligence–enabled programs supporting test, missile defense, and space systems. You will design, develop, deploy, and maintain advanced tools that drive automation, data analysis, and operational efficiency for internal and government customers. The position is highly hands-on, involving code design, code development, system design, testing, and the use of modern DevSecOps, containerization, and CI/CD practices to deliver robust, scalable, and secure software solutions. You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle—from concept and architecture through deployment and sustainment—while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring other developers.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, develop, and deploy scalable software applications and backend APIs using Python, Docker, and related technologies.
  • Integrate AI and machine learning capabilities into software solutions to enhance automation, data analysis, and decision support for test, missile defense, and space systems.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize machine learning algorithms and software components using frameworks such as LangChain and PyTorch.
  • Leverage tools like Milvus and Chroma for vector-based search and data management to support AI/ML-enabled applications.
  • Design, build, and package software for deployment using Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring efficient, portable, and secure execution across different environments.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using platforms such as GitLab or equivalent tools to support continuous integration, testing, and deployment.
  • Apply best practices in version control, code review, documentation, and secure coding to maintain high software quality and comply with cybersecurity and government standards.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, and system integrators to define technical solutions, share insights, and support multiple software and AI/ML initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior and mid-level software developers, helping them grow their skills and follow best practices.
  • Explore, evaluate, and introduce emerging technologies to improve performance, scalability, reliability, and user functionality across deployed systems.
  • Participate in minimal travel as needed for onboarding, corporate training, and other essential corporate activities.

Essential Skills

  • At least 8 years of professional software development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Strong proficiency in coding, data management, and software workflows, including a solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Deep understanding of software deployment infrastructure and how to design systems for reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Python for backend and application development.
  • Extensive experience with Docker for containerization and packaging of software solutions.
  • Strong experience with version control systems and backend API development.
  • Extensive experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices, particularly using platforms such as GitLab.
  • Ability to apply secure coding practices and adhere to cybersecurity and government compliance standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to learn, experiment with new technologies, and continuously expand technical skills.
  • Active Secret security clearance with eligibility to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with AI/ML research and development, including designing and implementing machine learning solutions.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and packaging software products for deployment using Kubernetes or other containerized solutions.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML frameworks such as LangChain and PyTorch into production software.
