Second Chance Program information

What is a second chance program?

A Second Chance Program is an initiative designed to help individuals with criminal records, or those who have faced significant barriers in their past, re-enter the workforce or society. These programs often provide job training, education, counseling, and support services to help participants rebuild their lives and attain stable employment. Employers and organizations that participate in Second Chance Programs aim to reduce recidivism and promote social reintegration by offering meaningful opportunities for individuals seeking a fresh start.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a second chance program coordinator?

To thrive as a Second Chance Program Coordinator, you need a background in social work, counseling, or criminal justice, often with a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with case management software, data tracking systems, and community resource networks is typical. Strong communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills help in building trust and supporting participants through challenging transitions. These competencies are crucial for effectively guiding individuals toward successful reintegration and reducing recidivism.

What are common challenges faced by team members working in a second chance program, and how can they be addressed?

Team members in a Second Chance Program often encounter challenges such as building trust with participants who may have experienced trauma, managing diverse needs, and navigating limited resources. Success in this role typically involves strong communication skills, patience, and a collaborative approach with colleagues such as social workers, counselors, and community partners. Regular training, supportive supervision, and peer debriefings are important to maintain staff well-being and ensure effective service delivery. Emphasizing empathy and adaptability helps staff create a supportive environment where participants feel empowered to make positive changes.

Second Chance Marriage and Family, Inc. is actively seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to join our team. In this full-time remote position, you will play a vital role in supporting the mental health and well-being of clients within a school-set environment. This opportunity allows for flexible scheduling, including some evening and weekend hours, to best accommodate the needs of our diverse client base.

About the Organization

Second Chance Marriage and Family, Inc. is committed to fostering wellness across communities by providing affordable mental health services to those in need. Our mission is to enhance accessibility to healthcare, particularly for families and individuals facing barriers to mental health support. We strive to create a welcoming environment emphasizing inclusivity and support, ensuring that each client feels valued and understood.

Work Environment

As a Social Worker within our organization, you will have the unique opportunity to work remotely, liaising with clients primarily through teletherapy platforms. This arrangement allows for a work-life balance while facilitating effective communication and therapy delivery. Our operational model is built on collaboration, connecting you with other healthcare professionals, including psychologists and primary care physicians, to ensure comprehensive care for every client we serve.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilizing your advanced clinical skills to conduct thorough psychosocial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans based on client-specific needs.
  • Implementing evidence-based therapeutic interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy, to address various mental health challenges effectively.
  • Regularly monitoring client progress through ongoing assessment and adjustment of treatment strategies, whether in-person or via telehealth sessions.
  • Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to promote integrated health solutions, enhancing overall client outcomes.
  • Administering and monitoring psychotropic medications in collaboration with medical providers, focusing on adherence and evaluation of treatment effectiveness.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your work will primarily focus on school-aged clients, addressing a range of mental health issues from anxiety and depression to behavioral challenges. You'll engage with students and their families to provide support, guidance, and skills training to foster resilience and coping strategies. This role is vital in guiding young individuals toward improved mental health and academic performance, significantly impacting their overall quality of life.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • A Masterโ€™s degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
  • A current and valid LCSW license to practice independently within the state of Illinois.
  • At least one year of experience working as an independently licensed therapist, with a focus on working with children and families preferred.
Preferred Experience

While the minimum qualifications are essential, candidates with additional experience in school-based mental health or community mental health settings are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic techniques and strong skills in client engagement are particularly valuable.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from USD 80,000 to 100,000 per year, accompanied by an annual incentive bonus structure. We provide comprehensive benefits, including:

  • 401(K) plan with employer matching
  • Coverage of license renewal fees
  • Continuing education reimbursement to support professional development
  • Malpractice insurance coverage for peace of mind
  • Flexible work hours to accommodate personal commitments
