Associate Zoo Specialist, Associate (Rescue) SeaWorld San Diego

SeaWorld is home to one of the world's leading marine animal rescue programs, with more than 42,000 animals rescued and rehabilitated. We're looking for passionate, dedicated individuals to join our Rescue Team and help care for animals while creating meaningful experiences for guests from around the world.

About the Role

A rescue ambassador plays a key role in the daily care, observation, and welfare of a diverse collection of animals, including mammals, birds, and reptiles. This position supports rescue operations, assists with medical procedures, maintains zoological habitats, and engages with guests and media as a representative of SeaWorld's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily husbandry and care for assigned animals following established protocols.
  • Observe and document animal behavior, health, and social dynamics; report concerns promptly.
  • Prepare and distribute diets; administer vitamins and medications under supervision.
  • Collect, label, and handle diagnostic samples.
  • Assist veterinarians and staff during medical procedures and assisted feedings.
  • Participate in animal rescues, including operating trucks, forklifts, and transport equipment.
  • Clean and maintain enclosures, food prep areas, and storage spaces.
  • Follow SOPs for animal escape scenarios and emergency response.
  • Deliver engaging guest interactions during tours, presentations, and offsite rescues.
  • Support PR, marketing, and media activities as needed.
  • Collaborate with other park departments when required.

Qualifications -

Required:

  • Minimum age 18
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Availability at least 4 days per week, including one weekend day
  • Clean driving record and ability to operate company vehicles
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift/move 50 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to transport animals across sand, rocks, and stairs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interpret technical journals, business materials, and government procedures

Preferred:

  • College coursework or degree in a related field
  • 6+ months zoological animal experience
  • Guest service experience

Compensation: 20.50 USD Hourly
