Looking for a summer adventure and a lifetime of memories? Look no further, Silver Bay YMCA is hiring, and we want you to join our team! Located in Silver Bay, New York on the shores of Lake George in the beautiful Adirondacks, Silver Bay YMCA is 700 acres of endless possibilities. Founded over 100 years ago, Silver Bay YMCA is a mission-driven Conference Center, Children’s Day Camp and Family Retreat that serves over 800 people per week during the summer season. Silver Bay offers a variety of activities to their guests, including swimming, boating, fitness classes, indoor climbing, high and low ropes courses, tennis, pickleball, archery, basketball, hiking, lectures, string quartet concerts, and a, arts and crafts studio.

Seasonal employees at Silver Bay YMCA start between April and mid-June, with the opportunity to stay as long as mid-November.

POSITION SUMMARY: This position reports to the Dining and Banquet Manager and is is responsible for filling key roles in the following Areas:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • CATERING: Helps prepare, deliver, and serve food for all catering functions across campus, including weddings, conferences, private parties and more.
  • DINING ROOM: Greet and assist guests, clear tables, maintain table set-ups, maintain bus stations, and clean the dining room and outdoor food service areas.
  • CAFÉ LINE: Serves guests from the buffet line and maintains the salad bar and beverage area.
  • Follows proper food handling and sanitation procedures.
  • Serves as a customer service agent through positive and friendly guest interactions.
  • Report all accidents and incidents involving self, participants, guests and other employees to the correct parties.
  • Performs other duties, as requested.
  • As a 24-hour operation, all staff may be asked to work weekends, evenings, night shifts and/or holidays in order to serve our members, guests, and program participants.

Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Experience strongly preferred but not a requirement
  • Bartending experience a plus.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions and meet food service health and safety standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to be alert, thorough, detail-oriented, and work effectively with others in a noisy and fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and multi-tasking skills.
  • Sound verbal, writing, and mathematic skills.
  • Basic working knowledge of computers.
  • Maintaining good personal hygiene and personal sanitation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop or kneel for prolonged periods; must be physically able to access and navigate all areas of dining and catering services. Other physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 25 pounds at a time and to work in excessive heat, damp and cold, as required in association .
