Job description

Kelly Government Solutions is a strategic supplier and business partner to the federal government and its key suppliers. The National Institutes of Health is seeking a Blood Bank Technologist. This is a long-term, full-time, contract position based in Bethesda, MD. This position offers a competitive benefits package. Shift: 8 hour Rotational (1st and 2nd Shift). Pay: $42-$46/hr.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers
  • Maintain laboratory equipment
  • Perform component manufacturing duties i.e. prepare blood components such as frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, leuko-reduced RBC, buffy coats from whole blood collections and pathogen reduced platelets.
  • Perform lot release and labeling for blood components
  • Perform laboratory testing pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Evaluate blood transfusion orders for appropriateness based on screening criteria.
  • Communicate with nurses and physicians to clarify questionable transfusion or testing orders
  • Perform compatibility crossmatch testing of donor and patient-recipient samples using automated and manual methods.
  • Independently resolve routine RBC blood group antibody problems.
  • Perform moderately complex testing to resolve complex RBC blood group antibody problems in consultation with technical specialist.

REQUIREMENTS.

  • Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program in laboratory science.
  • Minimum three (3) years of blood bank bank experience in laboratory environment is preferred.
  • ASCP or AMT certification, required.
