Traffic Safety Specialist (Seasonal Flagger / Pilot Car Driver)

Help Keep America's Roadways Safe

Traffic Safety Services (TSS) is looking for dependable, safety-minded Flaggers and Pilot Car Drivers to join our growing team. In this role, you'll play a critical part in protecting construction crews, motorists, and the traveling public by safely directing traffic through active work zones.

Pay

  • Starting Wage: $17.00 per hour
  • Prevailing Wage: $21.68 per hour when working on qualifying prevailing wage projects

Position Type: Seasonal

What You'll Do

  • Safely direct vehicle traffic through highway and roadway construction work zones using approved flagging procedures, signs, paddles, and hand signals.
  • Operate a pilot vehicle to escort traffic safely through construction zones (Pilot Car Drivers only).
  • Maintain constant awareness of traffic conditions and communicate effectively with crew members to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Follow all traffic control plans, company policies, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Assist with setting up, maintaining, and removing traffic control devices as needed.
  • Promote a positive and professional image while interacting with the public, customers, and coworkers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support field operations.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current Flagger Certification required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required for Pilot Car Drivers.
  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced, outdoor construction environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, organized, and committed to safety.
  • Willingness to work overtime and varying schedules as business needs require.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently climb, balance, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working near moving traffic, construction equipment, dust, fumes, and airborne particles.
