About Bethany College:

The College is dedicated to cultivating leaders who serve and inspire through integrity, creativity, and purpose.

Position Overview:

Custodians maintain cleanliness, safety, and orderliness in campus buildings. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and common areas; floor care; trash and recycling removal; minor maintenance; event setup; securing buildings; and seasonal tasks such as sidewalk sweeping and snow removal. The role supports campus operations by collaborating with facilities and other departments and supervising student custodial workers.

Essential Functions:

  • Clean assigned dormitories and campus buildings, including restrooms, hallways, lounges, laundry rooms, classrooms, offices, and other areas
  • Remove trash and recycling; vacuum carpets; sweep and mop floors; restock supplies
  • Prepare buildings for special events and assist with room setups/teardowns
  • Perform minor maintenance duties and report repair needs to the Custodial Supervisor
  • Assist in securing buildings and ensuring safe, hazard-free conditions
  • Participate in training on cleaning techniques, safety procedures, product usage, and college policies
  • Supervise student custodial workers and assist with student summer cleaning crews
  • Collaborate with other departments to support campus operations and events
  • Suggest improvements to custodial operations, service efficiency, and workplace safety
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings; provide feedback and recommendations
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance and a consistent work presence

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current driver’s license
  • High school diploma or equivalency (or currently pursuing with a set graduation date)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be very results-oriented
  • Highly motivated and works well both independently and in a team environment

Preferred:

  • Microsoft Office, computer knowledge, and knowledge of office equipment
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, or some knowledge of the Spanish language is a plus

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily indoor campus building environments; occasional outdoor work (e.g., sidewalk sweeping, snow removal)
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying supplies/equipment; ability to lift and move objects as needed for custodial tasks (up to 50 pounds)
  • May require early morning, evening, weekend, or event-related hours during peak periods
