Description

Miami Children's Museum is looking for an enthusiastic and organized Assistant Camp Manager to help lead our 2026 Summer Camp season from May 5, 2026 through July 31, 2026. In this seasonal leadership role, you'll help create a fun, safe, and engaging camp experience for children ages 4-14 while supporting the day-to-day operations of our dynamic STEAM-based programs.


This position is designed as a succession-track opportunity, where you'll work closely with the Camp & Outreach Manager to learn the ins and outs of camp leadership-from staff supervision and scheduling to program logistics and planning. It's a great opportunity for someone passionate about youth programs who's ready to grow their leadership skills in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.


What You'll Do


 Leadership & Succession Development 

  • Work closely with the Camp & Outreach Manager to learn and support day-to-day camp administration.
  • Participate in strategic planning, scheduling, vendor coordination, and operational logistics.
  • Gradually assume leadership of daily camp operations, including rotations, lunch schedules, and field trips.

Program Design & Educational Quality

  • Assist in reviewing and refining seasonal camp curricula to align with STEAM learning goals and the museum's mission.
  • Ensure lesson plans are well-paced, organized, and developmentally appropriate.
  • Support educators by modeling strong instructional techniques and classroom management.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and training camp educators and support staff.
  • Provide mentorship and daily guidance to staff to maintain a positive and engaging camp environment.
  • Conduct daily check-ins and support performance monitoring through camp reports.

Logistics, Inventory & Procurement

  • Conduct weekly audits of camp supplies, STEAM materials, and safety equipment.
  • Coordinate supply ordering based on upcoming programming needs while maintaining budget awareness.
  • Maintain organized storage systems to ensure classrooms are fully prepared for daily activities.

Operations & Safety

  • Support arrival, dismissal, and daily transitions to ensure camper safety and organization.
  • Ensure compliance with museum policies, safety procedures, and state regulations.
  • Assist with incident reporting and proper documentation when necessary.

Administration & Reporting

  • Support camp budget tracking, including monitoring supply purchases and vendor invoices.
  • Assist in developing seasonal reports analyzing attendance, incidents, and program outcomes. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Education, Recreation Management, Nonprofit Management, Child Development, or a related STEAM field.

Experience

  • 2-3 years of supervisory or lead experience in a summer camp, school, museum, or youth program environment.
  • Experience managing schedules, coordinating logistics, and supporting educational programming for children ages 4-14.
  • Demonstrated experience training, mentoring, or supervising seasonal staff or volunteers.

Certifications & Skills

  • CPR/First Aid Certification strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
  • Experience with registration or program management software is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, children, and families.
