Job Description Starting hiring salary - $16.00 to $16.96 hourly DEFINITION Perform entry-level, semi-skilled labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm drains and other City facilities, as well as traffic painting and street signage. Positions must work well independently and with teams, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton's mission and values. SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Streets Supervisor

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker does not supervise others. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Works as part of a street maintenance crew: shovels and spreads asphalt and asphalt base in the patching, repairing and reconstructing of streets; uses concrete cutting and breaking equipment; operates a jackhammer; forms, pours and finishes concrete; constructs concrete forms and performs rough carpentry work. Performs snow removal duties by operating truck-mounted snow plows, graders and sand spreader.

Cuts, installs and sets storm drain pipes to proper grades, inspects and clears obstructions from storm drains. Paint traffic control markings such as crosswalks, lane stripes and parking zones on City streets and curbs. Installs sign posts, signs and reflective traffic markers.

Spreads and packs gravel in City alleys and roadways. Identifies equipment needs for each assigned project; operates construction equipment such as tandem axle dump trucks, rollers, front loaders, street sweepers, and power tools such as compressors, jack hammers, paint sprayers, sandblasters, concrete saws and sewer rodders in a variety of construction, maintenance and capital improvement projects. Installs street barricades and cones prior to the performance of street repair activities; direct and control traffic around work sites.

Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed. Assists in construction of parks, small lakes and similar facilities. Responds to on-site requests and inquiries from the public.

Maintains daily work log. Works varying shifts and schedules as needed and required by the supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Methods, techniques and tools and the operational characteristics of mechanical equipment used in construction, repair and maintenance.

Uses, safety practices and purposes of general hand tools and light equipment. Operation of a two-way radio. Safe work practices.

Ability to: Maintain records and follow laws. Perform safe and lawful operation of a motor vehicle. Perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks in a variety of construction, maintenance and repair activities.

Operate a variety of vehicles and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner in routine situations. Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner. Perform heavy manual labor.

Perform on-call duty as required by the department. Read and interpret basic maps and blueprints, if required. Work independently in the absence of supervision, when necessary.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING One year of experience performing construction, repair and/or maintenance duties is desirable but not required. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to work in all natural weather conditions (snow, heat, cold, rain, etc.)

Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs occasionally, and frequently up to 50 lbs. and frequent driving at various times of the day is required. Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop and generally must be able to utilize a variety of physical postures in order to perform job duties.

Must be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Must be able to hear, talk, see, smell and feel. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of valid, Colorado driver's license with a safe driving record.

Possession of or ability to obtain CDL Class A license with tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
