Job description

Ice Skating Instructor

The award-winning Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for highly motivated, team-oriented and enthusiastic individuals who have a desire to make difference in Brooklyn Park by instructing skating. An Ice Skating Instructor is responsible for teaching skating skills in the Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks programs and will work under the general supervision of the Community Activity Center (CAC) Facilities Coordinator. An Ice Skating Instructor is a member of the Recreation and Parks staff team that works together to develop innovative service delivery methods and programs focused on quality partnerships, service to our community and achieving successful results. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with the CAC Coordinator to run an effective and efficient program
  • Start session on time
  • Interpret and apply skating principles
  • Maintain order and assure participants are following program plan
  • Report any incidents and assist with completing required reports
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 16 years of age or older
  • Knowledge of and a thorough understanding of skating principles

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to interact with participants in a responsible and professional manner
  • Ability to maturely and appropriately respond to any emergency or incident that may arise
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond with tact and courtesy
  • Ability to maintain order and security
  • Ability to effectively work with youth

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

  • Previous skating instruction experience
  • Previous successful experience working with the public and providing customer service
