Job description

Agile/Scrum Subject Matter Expert

Thompson Gray is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Scrum/Agile Subject Matter Expert to join our team in Orlando, FL. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to our Army customer, championing the adoption and implementation of Agile methodologies within federal acquisition and program management environments. This role will focus on delivering practical, compliant, and outcome-oriented Agile practices that enhance efficiency while meeting DoD and federal contracting requirements.

Location: Orlando, FL

Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Work Schedule: Full-time on-site (5 days per week)

Telework: May be authorized

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and tailoring of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.) within federal acquisition programs and contracting activities.
  • Provide expert guidance and training to program teams, contracting officers, and stakeholders on Agile principles, ceremonies, and best practices.
  • Develop and refine Agile processes, artifacts, and tools that align with FAR, DFARS, and other federal regulations.
  • Facilitate Scrum events including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Coach teams on user story development, backlog refinement, velocity tracking, and performance metrics.
  • Support the creation of lightweight Agile documentation and reporting suitable for government customers.
  • Identify and remove impediments while promoting continuous process improvement.
  • Collaborate with program managers and acquisition teams to integrate Agile practices into existing workflows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or Agile SME in a federal or DoD environment.
  • Deep knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, XP, SAFe) and their practical application in regulated government settings.
  • Strong understanding of federal acquisition processes and how Agile can be successfully integrated.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Agilist (SA), or equivalent Agile certification.
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Active Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Army or other DoD acquisition programs with Agile transformation.
  • Familiarity with Other Transaction Authorities, or rapid acquisition methodologies.
  • Experience developing Agile training materials and delivering workshops to government stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft DevOps, or similar.
  • DAWIA or FAC-C certification is a plus.
