Seasonal Ranch information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Seasonal Ranch Hand, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Seasonal Ranch Hand, you need practical skills in animal care, basic maintenance, and physical labor, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant ranching experience. Familiarity with ranch equipment, tools, and machinery such as tractors and irrigation systems is often required. Strong work ethic, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for handling unpredictable tasks and working in a team. These skills ensure the safety, productivity, and smooth operation of the ranch during peak seasons.

What are seasonal ranch jobs?

Seasonal ranch jobs are temporary positions on ranches that are typically available during certain times of the year, such as calving, branding, haying, or harvest seasons. These roles may include tasks like caring for livestock, repairing fences, maintaining ranch equipment, and helping with crop or hay production. Seasonal ranch work is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in agriculture or those who enjoy working outdoors. Most positions require physical stamina, a willingness to learn, and a flexible attitude toward various tasks.

What is the difference between Seasonal Ranch vs Farm Hand?

AspectSeasonal RanchFarm Hand
CredentialsNone required, some experience preferredNone required, on-the-job training common
Work EnvironmentOutdoor, rural, on ranches or cattle stationsOutdoor, rural, on farms or agricultural settings
Industry UsageCommon in livestock and cattle industriesCommon across various crop and livestock farms
Job FocusAnimal care, ranch maintenance, seasonal tasksGeneral farm duties, animal care, equipment operation

Both roles involve outdoor work in rural settings, but Seasonal Ranch positions typically focus on livestock and ranch-specific tasks during peak seasons, while Farm Hands may work across a variety of farm activities year-round. The roles often overlap in skills and environment, but the seasonal aspect distinguishes the Seasonal Ranch from the more general Farm Hand position.

What does a typical workday look like for a Seasonal Ranch employee, and how does the team coordinate tasks during peak periods?

A typical day for a Seasonal Ranch employee involves a variety of hands-on tasks such as feeding livestock, repairing fences, assisting with crop irrigation, and maintaining equipment. During peak periods like calving or harvest season, responsibilities can shift rapidly, requiring close communication and teamwork to ensure all critical tasks are covered efficiently. Team members often start early in the morning and coordinate through daily briefings or task lists, allowing for flexibility and mutual support. This collaborative environment helps manage the workload and ensures a smooth operation, especially during busy times.

key operational support position between the Lead Technician and Lodging Attendants, assisting with

preventive maintenance, owner service requests, cabin turnovers, snow removal, and property upkeep.

The Residence Club Technician is responsible for identifying and resolving routine maintenance

concerns, supporting cabin functionality standards, and assisting with operational logistics to

communication, initiative, task accountability, and real-time documentation are essential to

maintaining operational eficiency and service consistency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Cabin Maintenance & Operational Support

• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs throughout Residence Club cabins and shared spaces.

• Troubleshoot and address basic operational issues related to lighting, appliances, fixtures,

furniture, hot tubs, and overall cabin functionality.

• Support preventive maintenance programs and seasonal readiness projects.

• Maintain functionality, clean, and organize our garages, storage spaces, carts, maintenance

areas, and exterior entry points.

• Assist with snow removal from decks, walkways, garages, and entry areas during winter operations.

• Assist with basic drywall damage, painting, furniture movement, and repair-related projects as

needed.

• Service and monitor Residence Club hot tubs twice weekly to ensure operational readiness and

cleanliness.

• Clean, inspect, maintain, and document damage to Residence Club vehicles, golf carts

and operational equipment.

Turnover & Owner Support

• Provide backup support for Sunday/Monday turnover operations when stafing or operational needs

require additional assistance, including owner storage deliveries, trash removal, linen transport,

cabin readiness support, and maintaining accurate tracking of stored owner items.

• Coordinate delivery, return, and proper storage of owner items before and after reservations as

operational needs require.

• Check cabin back decks prior to owner arrival to ensure cleanliness, and clean and prepare BBQ

grills for upcoming arrivals.

• Support Lodging Attendant responsibilities during weekday operational needs and mid-week

turnovers, helping ensure cabins and shared spaces remain owner-ready for arrivals.

• Perform Residence Club Towel & Trash Service during weekday operations, including removal of

trash and dirty towels, replacement of trash liners, and replenishment of fresh towels.

• Respond to owner service requests in a professional and timely manner.

• Help ensure cabins meet Residence Club operational, functionality, and presentation standards for

each arrival.

Team Collaboration & Operational Support

• Work closely with the Lead Technician, Residence Club Manager, Coordinators, and Lodging

Attendants to ensure smooth daily operations.

• Assist with guidance and operational support for Lodging Attendants as directed by leadership.

• Maintain communication with leadership regarding operational updates, unresolved issues, or

supply needs.

• Support Maintenance Weeks through deep-clean preparation, inventory organization, functionality

checks, and seasonal cabin readiness tasks.

Task Management & Communication

• Stay on task during daily assignments while maintaining eficiency, professionalism, and attention

to detail.

• Utilize task management systems and Microsoft Teams to document updates, track progress,

communicate operational needs, and maintain accurate task statuses in real time.

• Identify and promptly communicate maintenance concerns, operational issues, damages, safety

concerns, or unusual conditions to leadership.

• Maintain motivation, productivity, and task focus during slower operational periods while

remaining responsive during high-volume turnover and maintenance operations.

General Responsibilities

• Maintain polite, positive, and professional communication with Residence Club owners, guests,

vendors, and team members.

• Take initiative to identify opportunities for operational improvement, preventive

maintenance, and increased eficiency.

• Assist with training or operational support for team members as requested.

• Perform other duties as required or assigned by management.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Experience in hospitality maintenance, facilities operations, property management, or a related

field preferred.

• Basic knowledge of maintenance practices, operational troubleshooting, and safe tool usage.

• Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.

• Ability to learn and efectively use operational systems including task management platforms and

Microsoft Teams.

• Basic hot tub and water chemistry knowledge preferred; CPO certification is beneficial but not

required.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and remain productive during both routine and high-volume

operational periods.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Valid driver’s license required.

• Availability to work weekends, including Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, Holidays, and additional

hours during peak operational periods.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and move continuously throughout the workday.

• Ability to lift and move 50–70 pounds regularly.

• Capability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including snow removal

operations.

• Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work involving tools, ladders, supplies, carts, and

operational equipment.

• Work environment may shift from moderate to high activity levels during turnovers, maintenance

periods, and peak operational days.
