POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Utilizing CHA Standards this position is responsible for teaching students with a variety of experience. This will encompass our overnight and day summer camp, and our year-round lesson programs. Responsibilities include: supervising staff, teaching lessons, grooming, tacking, general horse care, feeding, maintenance, and customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for the safety of participants in and around the ranch area
2. Reports to work on time, dressed in appropriate attire
3. Assist with hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of all part-time and seasonal ranch staff and volunteers
4. Assist with the maintenance of trails, fences and pastures
5. Responsible for properly tacking and grooming horses for trail rides and lessons
6. Cleans and inspects tack for wear and tear. Replaces or repairs when necessary
7. Teaches horsemanship and mounted lessons using positive and safe techniques.
8. Tracks student progress and communicates with parents/guardians
9. Use CHA and Herd standards to help students grow and learn
10. Communicate with staff, volunteers, and parents in a positive and supportive demeanor.
11. Helps maintain record keeping on Horse Health, Horse usage, Volunteer Hours, lesson student testing
12. Supervise volunteers, part-time and seasonal staff
13. Lead and or support birthday parties, special events, and trail rides
14. Complete all other jobs as assigned

1. Attend required abuse risk management training.
2. Screen employees and volunteers for abuse risk according to policies and procedures.
3. Train, supervise, and require adherence of employees and volunteers to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
4. Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback about boundaries with consumers.
5. Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations.
6. Respond quickly and seriously to all reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
7. Communicate the YMCA's commitment to abuse prevention.
8. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must have at least three years prior horsemanship experience to include, teaching of lessons, riding horses, horse care, tacking, and handling
• 2-year or 4-year Equestrian College Degree preferred
• Must display maturity, good judgment, and be safety oriented, organized and mild mannered to work with horses and children
• Must have at least a basic understanding of computer software such as: Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office and Publisher

• Indoor and frequent outdoor work, including all outdoor weather conditions with frequent exposure to dust, dirt, hay, mud and animal feed

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; but can occasionally be loud
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust
• Tasks that involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids/waste, or tissues; including those of barn animals
• Sitting and standing for long periods as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and climbing
• Walking up to 2 miles at a time without a break or rest
• Ability to do computer work for extended periods of time
