Great American Financial Institution Services specializes in providing risk management and product enhancement programs to vehicle lenders and lessors, commercial equipment lenders, auto dealers and mortgage lenders throughout the U.S. and Canada. Target clients include commercial banks, credit unions, finance companies, buy-here pay-here dealers and leasing and rental concerns.
The Financial Institution Services division is hiring for an Actuarial Research Analyst! Great American's culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in-office days are Tuesday-Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Conducts research and data analysis to support pricing, underwriting, claims, and product development initiatives.
  • Analyzes internal and external data sources to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Prepares and maintains detailed schedules and reports for key metrics, including premiums, reserves, loss ratios, and policy benefits. Accurately documents and validates actuarial assumptions, rating factors, and methodologies used in financial and statistical analyses.
  • Collaborates with actuaries, data scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver actionable insights.
  • Assists in the development and evaluation of rating plans, loss cost models, and performance metrics.
  • Prepares clear and concise reports, visualizations, and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
  • Experience: Generally, a minimum of 3 years of experience. May have one or two exams, but not actively pursuing exams. Typically, does not have and is not pursuing an actuarial designation.
  • Scope of Job/Qualifications: Works on assignments of moderate technical complexity and variety. Strong data analysis skills (e.g. Excel) and experience with programming and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Python, R, SQL). Knowledge of machine learning techniques and model validation. Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to inform decisions. Familiarity with company operations, systems and actuarial methodologies. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and across departments. Stays informed about changes in regulations and industry trends and adjusts analyses accordingly.
