Job description

Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled Microsoft Power BI Developer to join our team in Tallahassee (On-Site). The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Microsoft Power BI development, SQL, database operations, data governance, and enterprise reporting solutions. This role will focus on transforming complex datasets into meaningful dashboards, reports, and business intelligence solutions to support financial and operational decision-making across the organization.


The candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, developers, database administrators, and management teams to design, implement, and enhance reporting capabilities using Power BI and related Microsoft technologies. The role requires a strong understanding of financial reporting, data architecture, data warehousing concepts, and enterprise database environments including DB2, SQL Server, and Oracle.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards, visualizations, and enterprise reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI to support business and financial operations.
  • Develop and maintain paginated reports in Power BI for detailed operational and financial reporting requirements.
  • Analyze current data environments, database structures, and reporting systems to identify transformation requirements prior to dashboard and report development.
  • Partner with leadership and management teams to define and establish an organizational reporting roadmap aligned with business goals and reporting needs.
  • Evaluate and improve existing reports by collaborating with business users and stakeholders to align reporting outputs with evolving operational requirements.
  • Work with technical teams and business users to automate data transformation processes, reducing dependency on manual reporting methods, pivot tables, and spreadsheet-based analysis in Microsoft Excel.
  • Analyze, interpret, document, and convert WebFOCUS and Mainframe FOCUS queries into optimized T-SQL queries to modernize reporting capabilities.
  • Collaborate with database administrators and technical teams to create database views, stored procedures, and optimized data structures to support scalable Power BI reporting solutions.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Power BI Dataflows to improve data preparation, transformation, and reusability across reporting systems.
  • Integrate Power BI with Microsoft ecosystem tools including Power Automate, Power Apps, PowerPoint, and Teams to improve reporting accessibility, automation, and business workflows.
  • Analyze financial datasets including general ledger, purchasing, revenue, and ERP-based financial data to provide reporting insights and recommend improvements to enterprise financial data models.
  • Support administration, governance, access management, monitoring, and maintenance of Power BI dedicated workspaces.
  • Ensure reporting and analytics solutions comply with enterprise data governance best practices, security standards, and data quality requirements.
  • Implement reporting solutions leveraging multiple data sources and enterprise systems while maintaining consistency and performance optimization.
  • Train internal business teams and staff members, including comptroller office personnel, on Power BI reports, dashboards, reporting functionality, and best practices.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in a technology-related, finance-related, or relevant field. Equivalent professional work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Experience creating and managing Power BI paginated reports.
  • Strong SQL development and query optimization skills.
  • Experience with IBM DB2 databases, SQL Server, and Oracle database environments.
  • Deep understanding of data governance principles, data quality, and reporting best practices.
  • Knowledge of enterprise data management concepts including Data Warehouses, Operational Data Stores (ODS), Data Lakes, and Master Data Management (MDM).
  • Experience building reports for financial systems and presenting financial datasets such as purchasing, revenue, and general ledger information.
  • Familiarity with advanced data models and analytical structures including OLAP cubes, Star Schema, and Snowflake Schema.
  • Experience integrating Power BI with Microsoft tools such as Power Automate, Power Apps, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting design skills to transform business data into actionable insights.
  • Experience working with multiple enterprise data sources and complex reporting ecosystems.
  • Understanding of Mainframe flat files and enterprise reporting environments.
  • Experience working within SCRUM/Agile frameworks.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Oracle Data Warehouse environments.
  • Knowledge of mainframe programming languages, systems, and supporting software.
  • Familiarity with ERP and enterprise financial systems.
