Work schedule Monday - Saturday during peak season 6:00am - 3pm


Summaryย 

Performs a variety of duties in the Packing Department, Inside Production. Is required to rotate among duties as needed.


Duties and Responsibilitiesย 

Essential Functions

Machinepack - ย 

Stands by moving conveyor and (1) presses or places ย product into the machine-packed jar (2) lifts product from conveyor to finish filling machine-packed jars. Inspects product for foreign objects, broken pickles and defective glassย 

Other Duties

Stands/sits to inspects product on conveyor that feeds packing machine.

Glass inspecting -

Stands/sits to inspects glass jars visually. Using protective glove, takes defective or broken glass jars off packing line.ย 

Monitors product being discharged from the pasteurizers for deviations from established standards.ย 

Removes individual jars from the conveyor by hand if they contain slack pack or tight pack, product breakage, capping defects, bent lugs, possible foreign objects, etc. Places rejected items in designated boxes to be analyzed for disposal or repack. Removes and throws away broken jars, using safety gloves.

Inspect finished product before starting the capping process.

Transport empty jars by cart to the glass line.

Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.

Receives written instructions from packing schedule or verbal instructions from supervisor on above tasks and performs other work as directed by supervisor within restrictions.

No special educational requirements. Job requires good eye/hand coordination.

Physical Demands

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontal from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm in handling.

Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Light work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is related for light work.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (ie., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (ie., security guard, inspection, etc.)

Work Environment

Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetting from some job tasks. Fumes from hot pepper and forklifts. Earplugs required because of irritating machinery noise. Some contact with grease. Head cover and beard cover required. Gloves and aprons required.
