Job description

Are you a skilled at creating social graphics, infographics, motion assets and visual storyteller who can translate empathy, urgency, and hope into compelling creative content? The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, is looking for a Graphic Designer & Creative Content Specialist to help bring our life-saving mission to life!

We pride ourselves on a great company culture, excellent work-life balance, and fantastic benefits, including robust medical, dental, and vision insurance packages, generous PTO, paid holidays, and a comprehensive 401(k) retirement plan.

📍 Location: Hybrid (Monrovia, CA). We are initially prioritizing candidates based in Southern California who can work a hybrid schedule (coming into the Monrovia office 2–4 times a month, with potentially once-a-week onboarding/training). However, we are also fully open to out-of-state candidates who have proven experience working successfully in a 100% remote capacity!

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Director of Communications, you will serve as the primary visual storyteller for the Foundation, developing brand-aligned creative across both print and digital channels. You will partner across all departments to develop creative assets for fundraising campaigns, donor communications, signature events (like our head-shaving events!), partnerships, and digital marketing.

Working closely with our Sr. Social Media Specialist, you will also create platform-native graphics and short-form, social-first content using existing footage, photos, trending formats, and other creative assets.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

🏁 Creative & Brand Leadership

  • Serve as the steward of the Foundation’s visual identity, developing creative direction and translating complex scientific, fundraising, and impact stories into clear, compelling visuals.
  • Act as the lead designer across departments, managing and prioritizing multiple creative requests while providing guidance to internal stakeholders.

📢 Campaign, Fundraising & Organizational Design

  • Design materials for major campaigns, head-shaving events, peer-to-peer fundraising programs, seasonal giving, donor communications, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Create print and digital collateral including reports, brochures, signage, banners, merchandise, t-shirts, partnership materials, presentations, email, and digital advertising assets.
  • Oversee print production, including preparing print-ready files and coordinating with external vendors.
  • Create branded PowerPoint presentations and user-friendly Canva templates that enable staff to produce consistent, on-brand materials.

📱 Digital & Social Content

  • Design social graphics, infographics, motion assets, and quick-turn, short-form video content.
  • Use existing footage, photography, text, audio, templates, and trending formats to create social-first content using tools like CapCut, Canva, and in-app editors.
  • Stay current on social trends and identify relevant opportunities for the Foundation to participate and drive engagement.

📂 Asset & Resource Management

  • Organize and maintain photography, video, design files, templates, and other digital assets.
  • Manage and update shared creative resources used by staff and volunteers.

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional graphic design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating visual storytelling across print and digital channels.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud: Expert proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Figma & Canva: Strong experience with Figma and expertise creating and managing Canva brand kits and scalable templates.
  • Social-First Content: Experience creating engaging short-form, mobile-first content (Reels, TikToks) using accessible tools like CapCut, Canva, and in-app editors. (Note: This role is not responsible for professional video production; higher-production video work is handled by our in-house videographer).
  • Print Production: Strong understanding of print production, file preparation, and vendor coordination.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities across departments while meeting deadlines.
  • Communication: Ability to present creative concepts, incorporate feedback, and collaborate effectively with non-design stakeholders.
  • Mission Alignment: Ability to translate deep empathy and hope into compelling designs that champion childhood cancer research.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience working for a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Comfortable occasionally appearing in short-form social content or helping others capture engaging, on-brand video.
  • Strong awareness of social media trends and the ability to thoughtfully adapt them to a mission-driven brand.
  • Familiarity with basic animation or motion graphics (e.g., After Effects or in-app tools).

Physical Abilities Required

  • Ability to work in a stationary position for extended periods using a computer.
  • Ability to maintain a dedicated remote workspace with reliable high-speed internet.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for major Foundation events.

What We Offer

  • A competitive salary range aligned with nonprofit structures.
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance packages.
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO), sick time, and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) and retirement plan.
  • A supportive, collaborative team that values quarterly team-building, professional development, and making a real-world impact.
