Primary Objective
Under the guidance of the Facility Supervisor, the Ice Garden Specialist (previously called Zamboni Driver) is responsible for maintaining a quality ice surface through scheduled resurfacings and other assigned ice maintenance at the Bloomington Ice Garden. The Ice Garden Specialist is responsible for the cleanliness of locker rooms, bathrooms, lobbies, bleachers and hallways, as well as other assigned areas.
This is a part-time, year-round position.
8-24 hours per week

Examples of Duties
  • Responsible for maintaining ice rink, locker rooms, bleachers and areas surrounding as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Maintain facility schedule by following posted resurfacing times.
  • Perform cleaning whenever needed to maintain the facility and its surroundings in a clean and respectable condition.
  • Work as a team member to ensure that the entire building is cleaned, stocked and ready for the next day's operation.
  • Communicate with supervisor and other staff members any concerns and/or needs of the building and its equipment.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with staff and supervisors.
  • Provide customer service, share information and solve issues with the general public.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by the Ice Garden Supervisor, or other full-time arena employees.
  • Staffing the rink office and sharpening skates, answering calls, using the point of sale system and other office tasks.
  • Shovel and salt sidewalks and exits to maintain safe entrance and egress.
  • Assist in the opening or closing of the building as needed.

Minimum/Desirable Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to follow written and oral direction.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work in cold air and outdoor environments.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience operating ice resurfacing equipment.
  • Experience sharpening skates.

Supplemental Information
Starting Wage $17.44 - 18.86 per hour
(8-24 hours per week, depending on game schedule)
BIG is open year round which allows for continues employment throughout the year. BIG is open from 6 a.m. through 11 p.m. most days of the year, including weekends and holidays, but hours can vary significantly based on ice and facility rentals. You must be available to work nights and weekends.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position and is not eligible for benefits.
Ongoing Part-Time employees who are employed for more than 6 months will make contributions to the pension program (PERA) through payroll deductions unless they qualify for one of the exemptions. In addition, Part-Time may receive Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook and eligable for paid parental leave after 6 months of employment.
Temporary/Seasonal employees do not receive benefits outside of Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook.
