DESCRIPTION
The City of Hanford is seeking to fill four (4) seasonal vacancies for Ice Rink Manager to work at Winter Wonderland (seasonal ice rink). Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position performs a variety of duties including supervision and maintenance of the seasonal ice rink. Coordinates and implements community programs, supervises and evaluates subordinate staff; instructs activities; and performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned part-time recreation staff.
EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ensures the safety and well-being of the public during use of the ice rink.
Ensures cleanliness of ice rink, par area, restrooms and staff areas, as well as all other areas within the facility.
Schedules assigned staff to the City's standards and maintains the appropriate staffing.
Supervises, directs and evaluates the work efforts of assigned staff.
Coordinates with the Recreation Supervisor and actively contributes to the smooth operation of all ice rink activities and programs by assisting with canceling, combining and contracting patrons when private rentals are cancelled.
Plans and organize assigned recreation activities.
Oversees ice rink usage and rentals.
Ensures all City policies, ice rink rules, and regulations regarding the operation of the ice rink are adhered to and enforced by staff.
Provides training to all ice rink staff by conducting meetings, ice rink training and challenges.
Maintains order and discipline; enforces policies, rules, and regulations.
Performs specialized cashier and clerical functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic accounting practices including preparing financial reports.
Customer service skills including demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with customers and City staff.
Office equipment.
Computer hardware and software to prepare correspondence.
Clerical and financial recordkeeping procedures.
Ability to:
Direct, train, evaluate and supervise the work of assigned staff.
Employ effective instructional methods, as well as the ability to model those techniques to subordinate staff.
Ensure the ice rink attendance logs are kept accurately.
Complete daily attendance reports including program registrations and ice rink use.
Operates and maintains the ice rink and equipment.
Input employee payroll on a biweekly basis.
Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.
Communicate effectively in written and oral form.
Interact and work tactfully and effectively with the public and communicate information and assist with related questions.
Apply basic first aid techniques.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Experience and Education
Any combination of experience, training, and education which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Experience:
One (1) year of supervisory experience. Knowledge and experience in overseeing staff, coordinating recreation activities and facility rentals. Extensive public contact/customer service experience.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
License and Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
Possess current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications.
Work environment
Work is typically performed in an outside, non-temperature-controlled environment. Work is performed in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to noise, extreme cold, sun, wet, humid and other weather conditions.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Screening will consist of a competitive assessment of relevant education, training, and work experience to be followed by a written examination and/or an interview before an Oral Board to determine the most qualified candidates. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to an interview, and the decision of the screening committee is final. Those candidates who are determined eligible for appointment to the position will be placed on the City's Certified Eligibility List. Applicants will receive written notification regarding the results of all phases of the recruitment process up to the establishment of the Eligibility List, if applicable.
Paid Sick Leave
Employees are eligible to accrue paid sick leave beginning with their first day of employment. Employees accrue paid sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour for every thirty (30) hours of work, subject to the maximum annual benefit of forty (40) hours. Unused accrued paid sick leave hours will carry over from one year to the next.
457 Deferred Compensation Plan
Part-Time employees are enrolled in a 457 deferred compensation retirement plan ("PTS Plan") and will contribute 7.5% of their salary. The City is contracted with Mission Square Retirement.
