HANDEL'S HOMEMADE ICE CREAM is looking for Ice Cream Scoopers for SEASONAL & NON-SEASONAL employment at our location in the Ocean Park neighborhood of Santa Monica, CA
Come join our rapidly growing family and be part of the tradition Alice Handel started in Youngstown, Ohio in 1945. From making each batch fresh daily to using Alice Handel's original methods and recipes, we're still sharing our homemade ice cream and serving the communities we love so much one scoop at a time.
What we expect from TEAM MEMBERS
  • Ability to describe, talk about, and serve all menu items to guests. We offer 48 flavor options in stores, but have 150+ recipes from which we choose.
  • Execute friendly, engaging, and genuine customer service during fast-moving and busy service hours.
  • Ability to problem-solve and find positive resolutions to challenging questions, requests, and/or interactions.
  • Ability to operate a cash register/credit card terminal/point of sale (POS) touchscreen and have adequate cash handling skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk and move about for prolonged periods of time with full use of the hands and wrists.
  • Ability to lift, carry and move a minimum of 25 lbs. multiple times over the course of a shift.
  • Ability and willingness to perform important cleaning/sanitations tasks in compliance with statewide industry standards and regional regulations.
  • Consistently arrive on-time to all scheduled shifts throughout the week and follow proper company protocol if unable to do so.
  • Maintain a balanced sense of urgency while still being friendly, engaging, and navigating guests through the menu experience.
  • Reliability - We are looking for people who strive to be part of a team environment where everyone holds themselves accountable, where everyone is willing to work hard, and be respectful. This enables us to focus on getting to know our guests better, have a more fun experience engaging with them, and all while focusing on the quality of our product and the customer experience.

What can you expect from HANDEL'S HOMEMADE ICE CREAM
  • Cash and credit card tip sharing with team members. Tips average between $4.00 and $6.00 per hour!
  • Fun and comprehensive training...lots of ice cream sampling, discussing flavors, and setting team members up for success in our stores.
  • Clearly defined job roles, duties, and on-shift expectations.
  • Career advancement opportunities and fast promotion growth within our stores. After we have the Santa Monica shop open, we have plans to open more locations in the Los Angeles area.
  • Long lines. We usually have them and that is a good thing since it means lots of customers! Our teams are fast and efficient, and we can clear the lines quickly, and still enjoy the customer experience. W love the conversations and tips our amazing guests share with us!
  • We are open 7 days a week, Monday-Sunday from between 11am-10pm. Specific store hours will depend on seasonal business. We do our best to balance opening, closing, and mid-shifts for all team members so that everyone has a blend of several different parts of the day. We are seeking in employees who will have multiple days per week available for closing shifts which usually go up until 10:30PM or so.
  • Honesty, fairness, and positivity. We are a fully transparent company and have open channels of communication and policies to make you the best team member you can possibly be. We will continue do our best to set realistic expectations for staff and create a fun and positive company culture so that guests feel welcomed, loved, and will continue to come back to Handel's Homemade Ice Cream for generations to come.
